Girlfriend got a tourist visa in Bogota!

We were really concerned because of all the discussions of how hard it is to get a tourist visa from US Embassy in Bogota. But it was very quick and they only looked at a few things. We were very prepared though and I think that can make a difference. We are very happy now we don't have to think about a K-1 for a while at least. :) Bogota US Embassy is no so bad after all...:)

Can you tell us more about what she was able to show them that was persuasive in getting the visa?

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

I will try to get more details from her later today. According to her, they only really only looked at her application and the letter from her company that stated her employment position and the need for her to return to complete her project. They didn't seem to look at her bank statments, etc. but maybe they will inspect some of these later. I provided her a full notarized I-134 package just to provide some sponsorship/assurance. I know it was overkill and was concerned that maybe it was a bit much considering she wasn't family/relative. They asked a couple questions about me and according to her glanced at the i-134 and the invitation letter that i sent her and one made out to the embassy. Then he said she would get her visa. She said it is a 5 year multiple entry visa. but i will beleive it when i see it. woohoo!

Another girlfriend with Visa appointment Just reading some threads. Looks like you are fairly well-respected on this site. If you don't mind, I am going to give you a short summary of where I am.

I met a Colombian girl in Aruba last year. She overstayed her Visa in Aruba, and now she is applying for a US Visa. I thought my immigration lawyer was going to draft a letter on her behalf. As it turns out, he said the LAST THING you want is a letter from a lawyer on a B-2 Tourist visa. He also said that the second to last thing you want is to send a letter from me, her boyfriend. However, I had no choice. She does not have enough money to pay for the trip. She is self employed. She owns the house that she lives in. She has a 9-year old daughter that is PROBABLY not coming on the first visit. All this being said, if she tells the truth (that we are in love and that I am her boyfriend) I have doubts that she will be approved. Her Visa hearing is first thing Wednesday morning, January 25th.

Any thoughts on what she might say or not say on the interview?

Many thanks

Tony

P.S. I visited her in Bucaramanga 6 times last year. I feel safe when I am there, but, in truth, I have no desire to go wandering outside the city. What is living in Colombia like? I may have to consider the options if we cannot export her daughter (due to restrictions imposed by the father.)

Visa lottery I got my US visa when I was 14 years old. That day, my dad got the appointment late, and they gave him a new one for the following hour. This was in 1992. I thought everyone had the same luck I had, but seeing the tears on the face of many people outside the embassy, made me realize that some people are meant to be given a visa and some not. Even with all the documentation. They just have to give visas and deny visas. I was a lucky one. Maybe your girlfriend was too.
