Gifts for my hosts

I am going to visit Bogota, finally. YEA! I am staying with a family for a day or two. They have an 11 year old boy and 5 year old girl.

Are there US products that colombians desire(affordable things)? I am bringing good ole See's Candies for the parents; is that ok? Any ideas for the kids?

Sean

PS I refuse to bring Yankees gear so don't even say it.

kids love chocolates and in Colombia we don't have the variety that the USA or Uk have, and the really nice ones are very expensive, so chocolates are great i always bring them and they are a hit.

If you take a box of Godiva Chocolates... They will think you are a reincarnation of god.
If you take Yankees Gear, it will be CONFIRMATION ;)

Why Not Colombia?..........Stay Tuned, for more.... utterly worthless, self-indulgent gobbets of nonsense.

If you happen to be from near or around the Louisiana area they also love the rather Festive Purple and Gold colors/gear of the LSU Tigers.

Raiders????? Even though they are TERRIBLE this year, do the Raiders carry any weight? See's Candy is the big thing in California; I don't know where to get Godiva.

Try Terry's Chocolate Oranges they(colombians) love them. Thye are sold in most places like Walgreens, Target, Walmart ect. They also have them in Rasberry and aren't very expensive.

Anything with a sports logo(read Cowboys) is very appealing to kids. I always take See's for the womenfolk and they love them.

Swiss chocolate mint filled candy covered balls These are difficult to find in the U.S. These were purchased from Berings on Westheimer in Houston.

I’d say there are NONE in Colombia, but then again, I think Jiff Crunchy Peanut Butter is non-existant.

I keep a supply locked in my bedroom. If they aren’t locked up they will disappear. I give them to kids that visit the house.

Normally I purchase one of the Perfume Sampler gift boxes AT THE AIRPORT in the duty free shop.

These samplers contain five or six different little bottles. The last one was Calvin Klein, The one before was Lancome. These cost around 40 U.S. dollars for a box. If you're on a budget this would be good for 5 people.

the kids man the kids like about anything Americano that has to do with sports or music or a city in USA. Anything that has printed on it Miami or New York or Hollywood or Las vegas.

I took a 8 year old boy a soccer ball with all kinds of printing on it, it was a promo ball i bought in a 7-11 store of all places , it had pepsi and ford and all kinds of corporate promoters on it...the boy was the star of the neighborhood with that ball.

Once i just grabbed a t-shirt that said Miami Dolphines on it at the airport and the oy loved it.

If its americana they'll like it.

Surprise! I am trying to surprise them because surprises warm the heart, and they let the people know that I may have done a lil homework before coming to Colombia.

T-shirts with Legendary American Rock Stars are big, with young or mid-teens.

The Caramel cube candy DG suggests, should be big; that surprises me, you can't get that in Colombia, as big as people in the hispanic world are on caramel.
