getting to Cartagena

I've been unable to find a direct flight to Cartagena from Miami so I'll fly to Barranquilla and get the bus. The last time I did that I arrived at a bus terminal miles from the airport in Cartagena where my friends live. They told me to get a bus that takes you to your address and not the bus terminal next time.

My question is, where do I get such a bus from? Do they leave from the Barranquilla bus terminal? Do the busses have a special name?

You can call a company like Marsol. They pick you up at a place you specify and then drop you at various points in Cartagena, you just jump out when you want. Maybe if you are arriving to B`quilla, your best bet would be to take a taxi to one of their sites and then get the bus from there.
Also a door to door taxi service would cost about 34,000 pesos. Could pick you up at the airport and take you to Cartagena. Ask your contacts in Cartagena to book you a puerta-puerta, I´m sure they have a Barranquilla directory.

Like curramberochris said, Marsol is a great option. Have your friends do the leg work for "puerta a puerta" services. Marsol, Invertours are a few options you have. They will pick you up at your address and drop you off at whatever location in Cartagena. Or you can just go directly to their station and go from there. It only cost like 20mil pesos or so each way. I wouldnt call them buses, more like big minivans.

MarSol is more like a shuttle Van than an actual bus. What they do is they go around barranquilla collecting executive types like you who don't want the common bus and then once they got everyone they go. It's a better option than a private taxi (a little bit pricey 125,000) and its a lot more comfortable than a shared car/taxi which costs 34 -50,000 per person just imagine four people jammed in a small car for two hours.
Hey Man, have fun in Cartagena it's the best place on earth.
Remember, we're all in this together!!!

That is so useful thank you everybody especially tompower. I must have used them and gone to their ofice in Crespo, but everything was organised by my friends. It's really annoying that I can't walk from the Cartagena airport to my friend's house in Crespo.

My search showed that the Avianca flight is via Bogota. I've bought the ticket so the die is cast.

I'm more a Santa Marta man than Cartagena but the plan is to sail to Panama in a sailing boat and return by lancha along the coastline as described in the travel section.

Thank you all again.
