getting married in san andres

can anyone tell me where I can go to get married in san andres and if I can get married on a weekend? What do I have to do after the wedding when I return to medellin. My tourist visa is expiring in 4 weeks and I´ve already been here 5 months so I can´t renew it. Do I have to make an appointment for the wedding in advance?

San Andres wedding You can contact the notary in San Andres, I don't have his name and no. at the moment. Yes you can marry on the weekend. If you want a nice wedding on the beach or other place, there is a nice lady that will help you with all that. She will arrange everything for you.
I can get the no. and address of the notary later if you want to do it yourself. Best wishes to you both. Shifty

Click on my user name at the bottom of this post and it will pull up my account info. Select the contact tab and you can send me an email through that system. It keeps us from posting our email address on the forums where it could be scraped for spammers.

I have all the contact info and specifics about getting married in SA.

Peace,

CG

Here is the notario information Notario de San Andres Dr Rafael Meza Telephone 011-57-8-512-2112 The notario charges $300.000 COP marriage fee plus a $50.000 COP transportation fee for going somewhere besides his office to marry you. Requirements. A foreign citizen not born in Colombia may use their foreign passport. A person born in Colombia cannot use a foreign passport even if they have been naturalized in that country. This is extremely important as you will most likely be turned away for this reason. As a Colombian citizen you would need a valid cedula and a recent(fewer than 90 days old ) Registro Civil. It is very important that the registro be marked as "Valido Para Matrimonio". You have to get your registro civil from the notario or consulate where you were originally registered. Many notarios and consulates won't know what this means and will fail to put it on the registro or may say that you don't need it. Do not accept this from them. Both the Colombian Consulate in NYC and the notario in Neiva, Huila insisted that this was unnecessary. I have spoken to the Registraduria Nacional in Bogota and to the San Andres notario and confirmed that the "Valido Para Matrimonio" notation is indeed required. Have them look up "Ley 915 del 2004" which spells out the specific requirements for marriages in San Andres. You should call the San Andres notario before you go, and fax copies of all documentation to him to ensure that it is as he wants it. He is the final arbiter of whether you get married or not. Wedding Planner The planner that a few people have mentioned is Jannethe Ordoñez. She and her husband own the Noble House Hotel in San Andres.

My novia and I were married in San Andres over the weekend and Janethe was instrumental in helping us. She was even able to get the Notario to come in on a holiday to marry us. She and her husband are really nice and bent over backwards to help us on very short notice. If you want to have a nice beach wedding, she is definitely the person to call. She charged us a very reasonable price despite our last minute planning. Please keep in mind that she will be unavailable for some time beginning in August or September so plan ahead.

tricky travel agents Just a note of caution for anybody considering booking your trip from a travel agency.

I was married in San Andreas a week ago. We booked a package including air-fares, accommodation and food. We had previously seen a few hotels we KNEW were good and we asked for rooms there. They told us that all the rooms were fully booked in those hotels but that they had rooms in EVEN BETTER 5 Star Hotels on the island. We were excited and said OKAY :D

We got to the Aqurium hotel and it is two star at best. We arive at 12pm in the afternoon to be told be the receptionist that there are no rooms available to us in our price range. We said, we'll wait. She looks at us like we were something she pulled out of her nose and then tells us to sit down and wait for her to get back to us. She leaves us waiting in the reception hall for 3 hours for a room to become available.

We bitchy cow behind the reception desk finally throws a set of keys at us and tells where to go. We carry our own luggage up to our room and then decide to go to the restaurant.
To say that this felt demeaning was an understatement.

We go to the restaurant expecting a sumptuous feast to have been laid out for our gastronomical delight only to encounter possibly the worst service, the worst food and the worst drinks I have ever seen. The staff were unhelpful and lazy and the food tasted like it had been reheated from the day before. We later discovered that this was the standard for all the meals served from this establishment.

Three days after having eating for the first time at the Aquarium, I got a really bad case of food poisoning and had to go to hospital. I had shots for the diarrhoea and also for the vomitting. I spent the next 7 days recouperating.

The only two good things about this trip are 1) I married the woman of my dreams.
2) I look bloody GREAT!!!!! - I lost around 50 lbs from the food poisoning. YAY!!!!

To anybody who wants to lose a lot of weight, realllly quickly, I cannot recommend this place enough. This place is Weight Watchers on steroids.

For anybody looking for their dream wedding, go elsewhere.

Final thought.

The travel agent claimed that all the hotels we wanted to live in were booked out. Well that turned out to be untrue also. As we were walking out the door of the hotel on the first day, there were guys handing out pamplets from the hotel we originally wanted to stay at. We called the hotel and they said they had very many rooms available and we could check in straight away. They were so enthusiastic to have us stay there that they would even arrange a free pick up and a complimentary lunch for us.

Enough said.

Timefor.
