Getting Married in Colombia

Does any one have any information on the process for getting Married in Colombia. My girlfriend and I are both foreigners living in Bogota and are considering going down to Cartegena or San Andreas to get married at Easter.

What is required to get a license?
How easy would it be to find a church that would marry us?
Hotel for people coming from Europe?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

One word of advice: don't.

In fact, I'm not even sure two non-Colombians can.

Check out the Colombian civil law and Roman Catholic Church requirements at the bottom of the U.S. Embassy page:

sounds nice... the oldgringo suggests that cartagena at easter
would be a production nightmare,...enough to split couples.
licences,churches,hotels, all overloaded.
on the other hand, san andres is always a stressless joy.
cheaper, happier, sunnier,...and so much less formal.
later, you can do the romantic walking around cartagena.
suerte

Cartegena My boyfriend and I went over to Cartegena last month to check out places for a possible venue for getting marrried only to be dissappointed by the over-flooded of street sellers and noises. I was the main target on the street and eventually my boyfriend had to tell them I was allegic to: seafood, shampoo, sun-tan lotion, sea shells, plastic, sweets and whatever they were trying to sell me. If you are both foreigners, even if you are both fluent in Spanish, my advice is don't do it in touristy areas.

Avoid Cartegena. The street was full of 'friendly' agents claiming they cab help you in translating all the documents. I bet it will be the same at San Andres. Don't try them! All your documents have to be translated at the appropriate places otherwise they will not be valid. We were told to do it at the Colombian Embassy in London, which charges qutie a high rate, per copy that is.

Regarding finding church in Cartegena, we had troubles finding a church that recognised my english baptism. In the end we decided to just go for a civil service. Even that is still a lot of hassle.

Quick note: Just off the north coast of Cartegena, there are many islands worth visiting at very low prices. My boyfriend took me to an isolated island called La Palma. Now that is absolutely paradise.

Hope this may help.

"Cheap" Sam Andrés Honeymoon... I'm planning to take a bicycle to Providencia, and barter it for accomodations for my and my Bogotana. This is our first trip, and I'm wondering if I may rub-off as el-cheapo.

In Novemember I finagled myslef outta a stop-over flight from Cartagena back to Miami via Bogotá. Me dejó el Avión en Bogotá. It was the cheapest way to see Teresa, my bogotanita sweetie who I plan to take to San Andrés Feb 12 for one week. I'm Hoping to get over to Providencia right away, but she's bucking for San Andrés,probably because Rolas like to go shopping, and us "exiled" colomboamericanos like the piece & quiet of paradise island.

This is a budding romance for two "mature" indiviudals, and even though we've seen each other twice, we ain't hit a home run just yet...

With a little luck, once in Providencia, I'm gonna hit that ball all the way back to the mainland...:)
