Getting an ID card when emigrating to Colombia

In August, I'm moving out to Medellin to teach English. I've been told that I have to get an compulsory ID card from the DAS and that will involve having to give them a blood sample so they know my blood group.

Does anyone know if they will accept a doctors certificate from the UK with the same information?

The blood tying is part of the procedure for your "cedular" along with photos and fingerprinting.
You can get the blood test at numerous places simply and inexpensively.

DAS,, good luck

i went to renew my cedula,, went in hand with my old one which had my blood type, and they said i needed to go back to get another blood test to confirm my blood type. i was like, hang on, i already got my blood type it says it right here on my friggin cedula. its not going to change from last year.. she told me, no i have to get another blood test. i told the women, give me someone else to speak too. im not going to get another blood test. i had to argue a lot with several people just to not go back to the clinic to get another blood test to prove my blood type. what a hassle

no-don't forget you have 15 days after enter Colombia to appear at DAS-pretty straight forward process.

1st In order to get your ID card (cedula) you must posess a visa. No visa - no cedula.

I go with an old red cross blood type card issued in Ecuador years ago and they accept it no problem.

Jonas, so DAS accepted your non-Colombian-issued blood type card? I appreciate that I can get the blood test done cheaply whilst I'm over there, I'm just not a massive fan of blood tests and I'd prefer not to have another one if I can avoid it!

There is a clinic about three blocks from the DAS in Bogota. They do it for 10,000 cop.
