Getting a work visa

I'm going to Bogota in July for to work for at least a year, and need to get a visa. I currently live in West Palm Beach, so have been in touch with the consulate in MIA, but I will spend most of the summer up north, and am from DC, so it might be more convenient for me to deal with the embassy/consulate there. Does it matter? I'm getting the sense that my home address might dictate which consulate I have to deal with. And if that's the case, I might switch my home address to one in DC or VA, since once I leave Florida on 1 June, I might not be back before heading to Bogota in late July. Any comments, suggestions, threats, warnings, dissertations on this issue? Thanks; I love this site.
