Getting a student visa?

I've been told by the Colombian immigration office that you can, indeed, get married in Colombia on a student visa. Tomorrow I'm going to verify that with my friendly local notaria. After reading the stories here, offhand, this seems like an easier path than the conyuge visa. The immigration office gave me a sheet showing the requirements to obtain a student visa, but it just gave a list of three or four documents I needed to have - basically, a bank statement and a few documents from the school. But has anyone done this? Can I just enroll in a part-time spanish class and pull this off? Any recommendations on schools?

student visa I got one in one day. Went to the school and registered
for a course that lasted 2 months, they gave me a form to take along with my bank statement and that was it.

student visa Well, it's very easy to get a student visa in Colombia, although you have to go to Bogota to get it (unless you get it from an embassy) But marry on it? Seems very unlikely. There are official visas for people wanting to marry a colombiano/a so why should it be possible to marry on a student visa?
But, of course, if it is true it's great. Keep up posting and good luck.

Update OK, so I stopped by the local notaria today, and she told me no, you can only marry on a conyuge visa. About what I expected.

When I asked this question at the official immigration office here in Bogota (and you'd think they'd know), the woman actually asked me if a notary had said no. It appears that immigration knows there is confusion on this issue. But the woman at immigration shook her head and even put it in writing for me that yes, it is possible. So... apparently, not all the notaries know this, or the woman at Immigration was wrong, or the woman at Immigration was bored or disliked me and decided to have a wee bit of fun at my expense. Who knows.

I'm going to go ask some more notaries, though.

Hey, Joey, how long was your student visa good for? Only as long as the course lasted, or could you tack on some extra time?
