Gee, ANY positive stories about Colombians staying home

All I hear is sob stories about Colombians going overseas to wash dishes , or young 20 year old women marrying 65 year old white retired postal workers so they can get a green card.

Are there any Colombians that don't want to move ?

well my boyfriend came to the states in 2000. He got his degree and went back this pass july. He likes the states but he LOVES his country. When we first met all he talked about was his country and how the negative stereotypes about it are wrong. He admits that colombia has issues, but he has hope that things will get better. When we talk on the phone he tells me how much his city (bucaramanga) is growing and developing :). He could easy come to the states and stay forever, but he likes living there and I like it too.

ok now I feel better, I gotta move there in a few months , I don't want to get off the plane and be greeted by a bunch of rebels and be like where are all the Colombians ? Oh they went up north they're mowing lawns up there .

lol

I knew this Colombian girl who married a guy up here in California , he had a little one bedroom apartment , she got a job at a coffe shop working in the kitchen, her life consisted of going to work and coming back to her apartment and watching T.V. Now she was not a Estrato 1 resident , she had family and lived in the Estrato 3 area , Now my question is why leave your family culture everything to come here and be totally isolated ? and the guy she married was a bum , he makes his money off sports gambling and looks like Captain Stu from The Love Boat.............. lol

I mean what the f#ck ?

There's plenty of truth to the stories that you hear because "the word is out" to these men as well as others.... Older men hunting hot younger women...Younger attractive women looking for a way out of their present situations and a ticket to the states appears to be the "way out" for many... Thus many of both groups appear to flock to the same locations(both real and cyber) in order to meet each other. I brought my wife here this year and have 3 American friends that I know who recently did the same. We range in ages from 30 to 43. We have attractive, intelligent wives who enjoy living here but would LOVE to be back in Colombia with their husbands at their sides...The truth is, here in the US we have advantages but in Colombia, there are distinct advantages as this group well knows.... but the bottom line is that their are beautiful, decent women in Colombia who just want to be with the man they love...

2.) The ugly chick that wants to move to France to wash dishes.

3.) And then there is that other one from Cartagena that doesn't care if she is discriminated against as long as she can babysitt in Euorope, O que orgullo.

Now the people that I saw did NOT look like they were starving , I mean one was smoking cigarretes, You guys we outta be ashamed of fools like that.

Funny topic. I never had met before my girlfriend and still have not met one Colombian that wants to "get out", this includes my girlfriend. She is just as proud of Colombia as I am of America.

Most of the people who "wish to get out" in reality just desire economic opportunity. I mean lets face it how many of them can make 60 to 80 grand in Colombia. However, most of them don't realize how little they can get for 80 grand in the USA.

I know lots that would like to return home to Colombia but cannot.

OK even if you have nothing here somehow most people have TVs and they watch novelas todos las dias todo el dia, ............... No sorry I can't back up this statement because its to complicated, I've met people who get up when the sun rises and got to bed at sun down, no luces only water from a mill , ............ this subject is to seriuos and I am to tired to continue, but I will continue,

a lot wouldn't go if the economic situation was better. We have ot go so my wife can get her US citizenship, and due to the economic situation. If not for those, we wouldn't go back (acutally we'd go other places like Argentina or Barcelona, I am kind of bored here. Then again, if the economic sit was better, it would make me feel better.)

Another reason is culture, here there's a lot of it, but of very few cultures (and they are all similar). In other parts, like NYC or Barcelona, there's many different cultures and better education.

But if I really had to decide between the United Sterile States and Colombia, I'd stay here in Colombia.

Some people criticize colombians for leaving and being proud of finally getting a car or something that might seem ridiculous for gringos. But put yourself in their world (try that for one), your opinion might change.

None of them want to be in the land of retarded gringos but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Usually they blast out of there once they get the green card and the Bens. I mean let's face it, if you were living in the US and you had other options, wouldn't you want to get the hell out? I mean how much dick can you suck?

Classy as usual UC.

Mrs. RJ wasn't dying or excited to go to the US either. She just knew that was our only option - for the time being - to be together. We both want to go back to Colombia eventually. I am not sure who wants to more - her or me. With the right economic conditions, we will liquidate and head for the pais de leche y miel.

christobeldawg says on Oct 1, 2007, 22:20:

good point, just depends on what one prefers. I am just talking about how things seemed so dangerous in Colombia 10-15 years ago, and many wanted to bail out, but I think that is not the situation any more, fortunately, and people can choose to live where they most like to live. I know, many don't have a choice, so nobody blast me on that.

People from here are "despierta" (I´m not sure how to translate that. . maybe . . .wise? or witty?). Talk in one of the most difficult languages to learn (spanish). . .

And going dinner plus movies (good movies, not hollywood hollow movies) plus a few bruskies. . . only for 15 dollars (30.000 pesos). . .

And I'm being really proud of been colombian, and on top of that, I´m more proud of been a TRUE BOGOTANIAN . . . or "cachaco" or "rolo". . . .some nicknames adressed to people born in bogotá.

I think over the last 5 to 7 years many Colombians have a more positive attitude about their country despite all the problems. I don't really meet many that are desperate to leave like it was in the 80s and 90s. I am not exactly sure what are the reasons for this change but I do believe that the word is getting back that life in the BIG SHOPPING MALL in the north is not all that it's cracked up to be....and it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better......and we won't even talk about a society that is far more concerned about Britney Spears and O.J. Simpson......then not having a job......sad

What? Spanish is one of the most difficult languages to learn? Got to be kidding, it's simple (relatively speaking). The 30.000 pesos for those activities are cheap if your money comes from outside, but try working here, then it is expensive as the pay sucks.
