I have a friend who is extremely over weight. We were talking yesterday and I mentioned to him Colombia is a place where many people go to have cosmetic surgery procedures etc. and he asked me about the cost of a gastric bypass in Colombia. Personally, I don’t know anyone who has had this procedure, let alone had it done in Colombia so I thought I would throw it out there on pbh to see if anyone has any knowledge of the cost of the gastric bypass surgery in Colombia?

miamimike says on Jun 8, 2009, 19:13: PoorBut Happy---Check with large well known Clinics like La Clinica De Las Americas in Medellin or the Clinica de Santa Fe in Bogota. They perform this operation at both these Clinics, they are Established and well respected throughout Colombia as well as throughout the Americas(north and South). Many times they won't quote you a price until they see the Patient in the Flesh. They may only give you a Max and Minimum figure over the Internet or the Phone. Good Luck. Stick with the well known Clinics like the two listed below at any rate and deal directly with them instead of some 3rd party Medical Tourism company who only adds a hidden price to the surgery, sometimes as much as 50%. Keep that in YOUR Pocket by dealing directly with the Hospital and the Staff Doctors. I do not know the cost because she had it done through her prepaid medicine company as a necessary medical procedure but I am sure it would be cheaper than in the US.

catamd says on Jun 8, 2009, 20:54: Hi, gastric bypass surgery is an option for overweight patients and there are other types or procedures among what is called bariatric surgery. I am a physician and I strongly recommend Clinica Shaio or Clinica del Country in Bogota, both of them being excellent institutions and having the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the country (look for Dr Chaux in Country or Dr Ruben Luna in Shaio, I know them both personally and I absolutely recommend them). Good luck! Dra Cata 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

PoorButHappy says on Jun 8, 2009, 22:07: Thank all for your recommendations and advice. What my friend really wants to know is how much would it cost him to have this type of procedure. He tells me it's around $25,000 to $30,000 USD and he doesn't have that kind of money and had no health insurance. So if any of you have information as to the cost that would be very helpful. Thanks!

miamimike says on Jun 8, 2009, 23:46: Most Clinics will only give, without an actual physical exam, a ballpark price. Why not contact the clinics like Sante Fe or Las Americas for a Price? Their Phone Numbers/Web adDresses are in the links I left. Good Luck and remember to stay away from those 3rd party Medical Tourism companies/persons as they only add to your endprice. PoorButHappy says on Jun 10, 2009, 10:25: jps: thanks for the info. (very helpful) along with the private message from patriciaortiz I have an idea of what the cost would be. I visited a couple of web sites and even called a doctor yesterday and spoke to him in length. It appears the range is between $7500 and $8500. I gave this info. to my friend and he was pleasantly surprised how low it was as compared to the US prices. Now it's up to him. Thanks one and all for the helpful responses.

Lowell says on Jun 10, 2009, 13:02: I´m on the Colombian eat anything you want diet. Notice that I didn´t say all you can eat diet. After being sick for a few days and not eating much, my stomach shrank. I decided that it was time begin a serious diet. I now am able to be satisfied with much less and I try to saisfy my tounge instead of my stomach. I do eat everything, including cakes and other deserts. I´m not much on fried foods, rice and other starches, so no problem just about eliminating them. Lots of water and only 1 soft drink a day. 1 six pack of beer per week too. I´ve lost about 35 lbs in 3 months and need to loose 40 more to get to 180. I´ll be real happy when I reach the minus 200 mark. I´d imagine tha I´m in the 1500 - 2000 calorie per day range of consumption. Sundays I eat a bit more. Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
