Good news is that Colombia was able to tie it up and goes on to the knockout phase. Strange group results though...
1. Iran
2. Colombia
3. Netherlands
4. Gambia

Mind you Colombia is missing its big U-17 star Edwin Cardona that is already being touted for a senior side callup

Good result! 2-2 in the end on away soil (africa). Let's hope the youngsters pull through.

PS. anybody watching CL? Rubin Kazan is getting ready to shock the world it seems... I see either Barcelona or Inter not making it through to the next round

awesome! i completely missed this game, but I'll look out for the match against Turkey. For those who want to see how this tournament has progressed, here it has a nice diagram. Colombia will face Turkey and one of either Switzerland or Italy to reach the finals.

Hey Romy, I have seen the CL. Liverpool have been leaving it till the last minute to lose points against Lyon, and now look like they won't qualify. Munich look like they'll be another fallen bigshot. Rubin Kazan have defeated Barcelona at home, winning their aggregate matches against the current champions, which is by far the biggest upset yet.

ahhh it's too early to open up the guaro I'm still hung over from last night...

MIR, tough loss for MU, so much possession for nothing, perhaps not enough was charged for Cristiano...

Yeah Romy exactly, the 3 points go flying in the wrong direction and despite a tight game, nothing to show for it. The ChelseaMU feed dropped and I noticed the Turkey-Colombia match link which worked (caught extra time/penals), and that makes up for it a bit. Afterwards I never did regain the feed to see Chelsea score, which is good since it would only have annoyed me.

I've always said, you cannot just take a dollar value and hope it replaces a 40-goal season player. With Giggs and Scholesy retiring soon, a lot of dynamic in the midfield will be gone. Transition time.

Out of curiosity, throughout the course of the 90 minutes, was a draw deserved? How did Colombia fare? Losing on penalties is always harsh, but the right team went through in this case.

I think they need to be play a bit better or more aggressive because they way it looks they were lucky that they tied the game.

I only started watching at the half. It seemed to me for much of it that Turkey would comfortably control the game as they maintained possession. It wasn't until the Colombian manager decided to switch formations to a 4-3-3 that I loved because Colombia has been stuck on an old school (Maturana) formation for so long and failed to cope with modern tactics... anyways at this point Colombia started controlling the game more by attacking up the flanks and providing many great opportunities to the strikers. However, ala ManU, the flair player was missed to score the game changer, until the substitute was able to capitalize at the very end at which point I went ecstatic.

In regards to United the midfield seemed to be the major difference when they played Liverpool and Mascherano/Lucas completely controlled the middle of the field and made Carrick/Scholes invisible. Today, I thought it was the lack of that world class talent that comes through for you when you really need them.
