I'm getting closer to buying an apartment in Cartagena. One of the questions I have is how I will go about furnishing it? I'll need everything, beds, sofa, dining room, TV, refrigerator, lamps, lines, dishes, towels etc.
What is the best way to accomplish this? Just head to Exito with credit card in hand?

peteyw says on Feb 11, 2008, 10:23: Home Centre is your best bet to get most everything on your list. It has a small furniture selection, but what it has is acceptable. For more furniture selections, I would say the small shops on San Martin in Bocagrande across from Blockbuster can have some options. Also, there are quite a few furniture stores near the Convention Center in El Centro.

peteyw says on Feb 11, 2008, 10:31: Medoblado is right about getting a good mattress. Three good mattress stores in Bocagrande; one across from the Navy Base, another on San Martin not too far from Frisby , but on the other side of the street (but this one is quite expensive), and the third on Malecon, across from the beach near the Hotel Caribe.

Saltador says on Feb 11, 2008, 11:06: Thanks for the good info. I do agree most of the mattresses I've slept on in Cartagena were pretty sad, no support whatsoever. And once I had to pull the "spare bed" out from under the main bed for an unexpected guest. The mattress was so thin it was non existent, it was like laying directly on the wood slats...

It is a great place for all kind of construction and house stuff. For furniture it may not be the best place. Jamar in Pie De Popa has descent stuff that wont cost you a fortune.
