Furnished Rooms Coming Available October 9 & Dec 20 in La Casa Terraza Community House (BOG)

"LaCasa Terraza" is a great community house in the Chapinero Alto area of Bogota. I'm looking to rent rooms to some great people looking for longer stays of 2 months or more for all the right reasons; individuals working for NGO's, environmental causes, or along those lines, folks that enjoy community, enjoy bi-lingual and a multi cultural atmosphere, cooking, hanging out and bbq's, intelligent conversation, sport pick-up games and just going out.

At present (3 Oct) I've got 2 rooms that will come available, one on the 9th of October and the other on the 21th of october. If capable come by and see or send an email if abroad! (if you come across this post at some much later date send an email anyway and we'll let you know what we have available)

Looking for folks that and work and play hard!

Contact at: grant (dot) canary (at) gmail (dot) com

The House:

-6 furnished bedrooms (bed and desk) 4 baths. (beds are fantastic orthopedic mattresses)
-Huge rooftop terrace and bar-b-que/fire pit with a great city view; daytime pleasures include thinking, sunbathing, reading, (see photos via picasa link below!)
-Cable Internet & Wireless
-TV & DVD player
-El Tiempo (national newspaper subscription)
-Large Common Room and 8 player poker table & Set
-Of course a full kitchen
-Extremely quiet neighborhood with 24 hr security
-1 block from park with basketball/microfootball court and pickup games.

Rent:
Rent depends upon duration of stay and size of room chosen. You can expect between 500-700 mil per month depending upon length of stay (roughly $USD 250-350 per month) --right in the market with local housing prices. Far cheaper than bogotacolombialodging.com or welovebogota. Discounts are available for longer stays.

The Immediate Neighborhood:
1 block away is the local corner grocery store "San Francisco," and next door are the laundromat and a seamstress shop. Also within 1 block is the local basketball/microfootball court.

Within 4 blocks away there are (these are just my favorites):
1. a PHENOMENAL Espana sandwich shop, a little hole in the wall run by a grandmotherly woman named Indaly;
2. a resturaunt called "Mini-Mal" with exquisite foods from many cultures such as Japanese Blowfish as well as Native Colombian recipies
3. a bar called "el treffen" with not only a drinks menu but also a games menu (scrabble, poker, uno, etc etc).
4. Bodytech gym--bodytech is a great gym although spendy for some. Managers gym is a cheaper alternative close by, and Wonder Gym is better still but a bit farther away
5. 2 Really nice Yoga studios
6. 2 small neighborhood markets (3-5 houses down each) and 1 large 24 hr Carulla Supermarket
7. Three vegetarian restaurants, and La Esquina Vegetariana has a GREAT bread store and does deliveries.

The Larger Neighborhood:
The house is off calle 57 above and away from the noise of carrera 7 but within a few minutes walk to this central artery of transport.

Chapinero Alto is just south of Andino, the Embassy district, and Zona Rosa (nightlife), and just North of Candelaria and the historic district bars and hostels. Its right smack dab in the middle--a great location--and a 5 minute busride/20 minute walk to either main zone of employment (given good traffic). For longer travels in the city, from the house it is an 8 minute walk to the city's much revered Transmilenio Bus System.

For those studying spanish we are a 5-10 minute walk from Universidad Javeriana.

Interested? Questions? Send an email and introduce yourself, why you're here in Bogota, your funky passions, if you've lived in a communal house before, or whatever information you want to include. We'll send you some info about the folks we've got here!

"Far cheaper than bogotacolombialodging.com or welovebogota." Oh really. I can't speak for Bob at Bogotacolombialodging.com but I can speak for www.welovebogota.com. Do the math. Your rent is more expensive than www.welovebogota.com when renting one room for the month. Your cost at $350 is $19 a night. welovebogota.com is only $17.99. But here is the kicker at welovebogota - you don't have to sleep on the floor on an orthopedic mattress lol !

www.welovebogota.com and www.bogotacolombialodging.com have been in competition for over 2 years now. Not once have they slung mud. I suggest you do the same. There is lots of room for competition in this area without these tactics. In closing, I have met Bob from Bogotacolombialodging. He is a class act. Nuff said.

Your Home Away from Home www.welovebogota.com and www.apartmentinbogota.com "Luxury apartments and rooms Cheap" Only 2 blocks from the American Embassy! 24/7 hour security.http://www.monsterrakebacks.comCome gamble and get money back!

Lostgringo,

Still in the Philipines or have you returned to Colombia or some place else?

Lost Gringo. I can appreciate someone asking not to sling mud. Sounds great. I believe that my Ad stating that we're cheaper than welovebogota.com and bogotacolombialodging is factual, not mud.

Your suggestion that people sleep on the floor at La Casa Terraza is not factual, please check the photos to see the beautiful beds and mattresses provided in all rooms.

Nor is your math correct:

$350 / 31 days = $11.29 / day. NOT $19.00 which you suggest. Monthly saving comparatively is $207/Month (math below).

Furthermore, this is the high end value. 100% of people in the house right now pay 550,000 pesos/month as they're staying longer than three months. Using an exchange rate of 2,000 pesos/ dollar, this works out to be $8.87 / night. (550,000/2000= 275. 275/31 = 8.87)

On the high end figures, at a savings of $6.70/day (17.99-11.29) you save (6.70*31) = 207 / month. On the low end figures you save $9.12 / day (17.99-8.87) for a total savings of $282 / month

Most people in advertising would call that far cheaper. I'd be happy to tone it down and just say cheaper.

Please stop trolling and trying to pick fights, doing poor math to misrepresent other's businesses, and suggesting that conditions at La Casa Terraza are poor. We've got a great place and we're cheaper. We prefer people for a minimum of 1-2 months, welovebogota.com and bogotalodging.com seem to do more nightly and weekly business, your prices were used as a reference to guide travelers needing a reference.

Thanks much! :)

I don't care if La Casa Terraza is in a cooler zone and works out a bit cheaper. welovebogota.com apartments could still beat them to the post if they have a gas stove.

I am pissing my knickers here with excitement
