Fundacion (Barranquilla

Hello all. Taking the advice of Gomezman5 I would like to know if anyone can tell me about the pueblo outside Barranquilla (Fundacion). I am considering visiting a colombiana there, but not sure if this Pueblo is safe. I am not trying to foster some negativity that revolves around Colombia, but as Gomezman pointed out, its a good idea to investigate before tretching into foreign territory. While I know their are significant parts of Colombia that are safe to travel too, its just smart to investigate. Any help or comments about Fundacion would be greatly appreciated.

thank in advance,

Any Suggestions Hello all. I have taken your advice and tried to find out about the city I want to travel to. But there is absolutly nothing on the net. The city or pueblo is Fundacion de Magdalena. It is roughly a two hour drive from Barranquilla. Any suggestions on where I can find info on this pueblo before going to Colombia.

thanks in advance.

Well google is your friend as they say ;-)
I know there's shitty links here ... but also good ones related to Colombia ending on ".gov.co"

that google is worthless Map showing Fundacion: http://www.multimap.com/wi/1476.htm

If you zoom out you see its location relative to Barranquilla and Cartagena pretty well.

The problem for the search is that Fundación = foundation, and you find many sites about foundations in Magdalena. So the best bet is to find somebody here in PBH who has traveled the northern Magdalena region. I recall several doing bus trips and taxi rides there. Maybe a search in the older posts would help too ... the search link on top of this page could help. So far I have always found information if a town is of touristic or other interest. Finding nothing is a good pointer to a really boring place.

Who did you find there? If you want to meet somebody I would recommend meeting in Barranquilla, then taking the taxi/bus to Fundacion together. I heard this advice many times for other small villages/towns. Santa Marta or Cartagena are also nice places to meet.

Why There??????????? From Barranquilla take the road to Santa Marta-when you get to Cienaga go right on the highway to Bucaramanga about 35 km. Have been throgh this area on the bus and went through Fundacion but really don't remember itmuch. Was not a small town, I would say maybe 50,000 people but I'm not sure.. The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta are off to the east and are amazing-like 18.500 ft and right up from almost sea level. BUT, this is likely not the safest place to choose to travel.
