Robert Jorge says on Nov 29, 2007, 18:46: Just my two cents worth, and from a gringo perspective: Don't fly from Bogota to Villavo. Your missing out on a beautiful ride, and the time it takes is 2.5 to 3 hours, even in the busetas. Once you get to Granada or further, don't be wandering around at night in the countryside. Granada is known by locals as kind of a frontier town. Yes, it is very beautiful. It has a nice park. There is a river that goes through town. Very nice people ... but remember you are out there a ways. If you need a friendly contact in Granada, PM me. I have family there. Spanish only though. Robert Jorge says on Nov 29, 2007, 21:07: I just talked to my better half. She said if a person is a gringo, it is unwise to hang out in Granada for more than a few days. If you are passing through, you'll most likely be fine and have a great experience. The problem is if you spend an amount of time there - one week, two weeks, etc. The locals that come in contact with you will tell everybody that there is an outsider, a gringo, shacking up at such and such a place. They might not mean any harm by chit-chatting with everybody, but the information will eventually make it to the types of people you would not want to know that you are there. As time goes by, and the word spreads there is a gringo living in Granada, your danger level increases exponentially. We are talking a very real risk of kidnapping and death - of course being drained of any funds before said death. I wouldn't hesitate to travel through Granada, stay a day or two, or even visit occasionally. But living there for a while would be very unwise as a gringo or even an outsider who is perceived as having a little money. I assume the same rule applies the farther you get out into the Meta department. He who farts in church, sits in his own pew. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
