From Miguel_Clavo

Holy Bejesus! What the hell? PBH has run amok!!! After seeing my “angelic (jeje..) name, I entered the To Miguel Clavo post by Colombiche, and it’s like walking through a mine-field blindfolded and peg-legged in there!!! What the Hell is going on here~WW3????

To start off, I want to post exactly what the OP is referring to, so that there is no misunderstanding on what my post mentioned. I will then address the reasons why I cautioned a first time poster Strobers about admitting to being a Mexican-American on a Colombian website. Stobers has nothing to do with my posting, and this post. And I apologize to him for corrupting his post. Here is what I posted:

Be careful who you tell that you are Mexican-American here....
There is a small faction of uppity and arrogant Colombianos (well, to be more accurate, one Colombiana and one Colombian-American, neither of whom live there) who feel that Mexicans are below them for some reason....but they are among the first to whine about the bad reputation and negative stereotypes that are given to Colombians by the rest of the world in general. I guess they feel that they are more Latin or Hispanic than Mexicans. Hypocrisy at its finest...careful, some shyster in Chicago may pray that you choke on a taco as well.....and threaten to sue you or try to impress you with the fact that he is a lawwwwwwwwyyyyerrrrrrr...and by insinuation rolling in money.........=P

Just my opinion...

continued.... So that there is no confusion, I was specifically referring to some comments in a prior thread regarding a Mexican-American female who was hired by a law firm over a Colombian competitor. The comments were made by Gomezman5 and Colombiche. As you can tell, I mentioned no names in my comments in the above post, because the warning I gave to the new poster was sufficient, and the names were not relevant.

From reading the initial and subsequent posts by G5 about his regrets about hiring the “Mexican job applicant, it was obvious to me that the only way he was differentiating between the two job applicants was through nationality. The successful applicant was not described as: a female, an American female, a Mexican-American female, the successful female, the woman who landed the job female, the stupid female, the insulting-Colombia female (holding similar stereotypes of Colombia like most of the world..what a perfect chance to show this lady the truth about Colombians…duhh….!), ..i think you get the drift…..but no….the whole time it’s the “Mexican female…Then the ranting continued about how G5 wished she would choke on a taco? Hmmmm, taco, taco,….i have heard that word before….now, what nationality is known for tacos….?? the whole ranting is about how terrible this “Mexican is. And how much it would cost to mutilate her “Mexican body in the name of Colombia. Did you ever stop to think that she may have been a 2nd, 3rd, or even a 4th generation American? Or Mexican-American? The US has more “hyphenated citizens than most other “Politically Correct countries….There is no shame in it. I am a Mexican-American, or more accurately, an American with Mexican roots. Some people on PBH can deny the fact that they are actually either a Colombian-American or an American with Colombian roots all they want, but to say that one is “%100 por cento Colombiano (sic) is self-deceiving at best. You can be born in Africa, but if you spend almost your entire life in the US, sorry, that makes you one of the following: an African-American, or an American with African heritage, or an American.

Now, I could really give a shit what people think about me, my heritage, stereotypes of my bloodlines…being a cop in CA for more than 27 years, I have heard just about everything bad thing said about all people…...but what really irked me was that these two people, as well as most PBHrs, bitch and moan about how undeserving of the negative reputation Colombia has. There is no secret here about the negative stereotypes credited to Colombians. Where I work in law enforcement in CA (1600 sworn personnel, if you were to take a survey and ask my coworkers to list 10 thing that they know about Colombia, the following would most certainly be on that list: Pablo Escobar, cocaine shipments by the kilo shipped in submarines, 40 years of civil war, Colombian neckties, death wishes of the tourists visiting Colombia, kidnappings, assassins, desperate women who will sell their mother’s soul to the devil to come to the US, and once here will take her new hubby to the cleaners in as nasty American-style divorce, and how eventually there will be no one left in Colombia because they are killing each other!!! I am dead serious! No bullshit!...Now, I would think that most PBHrs would be willing and knowledgeable enough to “educate these silly people about the truth and realities of Colombia, and how utterly nonsensical these stereotypes are. How else will people come to realize that Colombia is not a death trap for all that enter, and there is a highly educated, hard working, and cultured people there??

I know that I take every opportunity presented to me, to enlighten these coworkers of mine, because I have been there many times to observe firsthand what actually occurs there and the many positives that exist. I don’t need to tell anyone here that Colombians have hearts of gold, an incredible culture, but not enough comida picante IMHO! =) Now, believe it or not, there are many of them who are just dying to visit Colombia as a result of our conversations, but, these macho cop “scaredy cats (sp?) want me to hold their hand and escort them there!! Jejejeje… I am not a Colombian Go Go Team member, but I will relay honest observations to all who will listen. Now, I am no rocket scientist or nobel laureate, but I do know a good thing when I see it.

The point is, I find it totally hypocritical for some Colombians/Colombian-Americans on PBH to condemn the undeserving stereotypes given to Colombians, while at the same time, participating in the furtherance of bad stereotypes to people of Mexican heritage. That is almost shameful in my book.

last part..... Now I believe that most people here know my feelings on illegal immigration. Rather than “beat a dead horse I will just make a few comments, coming from a person with Mexican blood.

1. The US must be able to control its borders for security reason, and to regulate the legal flow of immigration, which has formed the foundation of the US.
2. Law-violating Illegal immigrants need to be replaced with law-abiding legal immigrants. I support a simple concept: Reward good behavior, and punish bad behavior. Amnesty is not an option.
3. Once removed from the US, the illegal immigrants can wait their turn behind all the immigration applicants currently waiting in line. “No harm, No foul, just get in back of the line.
4. Criminalize federal immigration laws for first-time offenders. Active enforcement against employers and the immigrant. All at once? No, as apprehended over a long period of time. Force ALL law enforcement agencies to enforce Federal Immigration Laws, which is rarely done currently.
5. A manned border wall needs to go up along the southern border.
6. A Guest Worker program is needed.
7. As with all legal immigrants, there needs to be a road to US citizenship. Requirements: Learn English, some history of the US, and a spotless criminal record. =)
8. Register as a Republican and Vote Republican…jejeje..just kidding! I learned to slip things in, just like the passage of IMBRA by Congress! Notice the fine print!
9. Dedicate appropriate fund for economic programs to improve the working conditions of lower paid laborers, field workers, etc. Including work training and educational programs. More cooperation with Mexico as this is really a bi-national and regional problem. Get rid of corrupt politicians, lobbyists, junkets, and other wasted money and spend it here.

Specific Comments:

Kat1: yes, we did clear that up. Not an issue anymore. I did take it the way Johna had mentioned. Actually, he and I discussed that very post over a Corona! Johna, thanks for watching my back, bro!!

Albatross: Has nothing to do with embracing anything. There is no single American Culture. It’s a hodge-podge of cultures. If any person was in their economic situation, including myself, and they had a family to support, I would crash that same border, or prostitute myself to support my family. (Not that I would make any $$ that way! Jejeje…) there is no collective conspiracy to act one way or another, and it is simply wrong to classify a whole nationality on some people looking for a better life. They just need to wait in line and not crash the party. And we need to remember that in 1986 didn’t WE grant amnesty to end all illegal immigration problems and wipe the slate clean? Boy, did WE drop the ball on that one, right?

Colombiche: No hard feelings. And you are right, economics controls immigration, not good intentions. And there is no justification for Hispanics to fight each other. Just someone remind me not to turn my back on her when she has an exacto knife in her hand! Jejejeje..she might remove my Aztec Calendar tattoo from my back!! Jejeje..

Gomezman5: No hard feelings either. Life goes on…. You are right about corruption in Mexico. La mordida needs to be squashed, but like in Colombia with its similar economic woes, as long as the government worker gets paid more by the crooks, it will always be that way. Its like a slow cancer, killing its host.

Gringodiego: Many valid points about the US. What other country makes it smoother to assimilate? We have everything you ever wanted to know about the US in God-knows how many languages. You can even graduate from post-graduate programs and not know any English???? What the hell??? What is next?? Degrees in teaching English where the instructor can’t speak it?? The US government and the American people bend over backwards to help the new arrivals. But it is a total turnoff to most US citizens for illegal immigrants to throw themselves into the faces of the American public and demand things. And, for that tactical stupidity, they will pay later.

Caslug: I agree that the US is a land of Opportunity, not a land of Guaranteed Wealth. What we don’t need is more lazy freeloader to burden the taxpayer…Lord knows we have enough of them!!! And I must point out, that Freedom is not free.

Monporri: Like I mentioned earlier, I take a lot of time to promote the positive things about Colombia, not because I am Colombian, which I am not. But I have dealt with enough of the bottom-dwellers and low-lifes in society, that when I observed firsthand how incredibly different Colombians were in so many positive ways, I actually felt at “home there. And when people talk trash about something they have no first hand knowledge about, I have no problem in enlightening them. People warned me about riding a Harley throughout eastern Europe by myself, but I had the time of my life, and clued a lot of American people in about Russians too. =) I even found out that the Russian Women DON’T eat American children for misbehaving, like my parents always told me! What a relief that was!!!!...jejejeje….

Christalmighty!!! Have I left anyone out???!! Damn, I am gone only for a short time and miss all the fireworks!!! Just my luck…….a day late and a dollar short!!!!

Like I said MiguelClavo.... My comments about "setting the mexicana straight" were mere attempts at injecting some humor into the thread. It had nothing to do with the nationality, I would have said the same thing no matter where she was from, so no - this is not an anti-mexican thing. I just tend to have a dark sense of humor at times, no harm intended.

Since gomezman called on me to come set the lady straight (like I some kind of Rosario Tijeras or something), I thought it was funny to play with the bad colombiana stereotype.... maybe if you watch the movie you will understand.

I am definitely not uppity up or whatever you call it. I did extend my apologies for the joke if it bothered you.

That said, I really hope not to get dragged into a tug of war...... I'm so tired of these little playground fights at PBH, that is why I have decided to speak half jokingly most of the time. If I was to get po'd everytime Colombianas are ridiculed on this page, I would have an annurism by now. Nobody gets crapped on more at PBH than Colombian women do, but I developed a thick skin about it.

That said, I hope things start looking up a bit.

I would think that a child, born in one country, but left at an. early age where there is little memory about the country of birth, with little connection to the old country, maybe distant relatives, or some knowledge of a city, but several decades of time in the US, would make the person more accurately called an X-American where X=original country.....that is the concept behind assimilation in this country...but, anyone can be any sex, any race, any nationality, of from any planet they want to nowadays so it really doesnt amount to much.....

A lot of waisted words Clavo..a whole lot Colombiche about said it all. You misread the whole thread. You have not been around here much until recently. Everyone who is on this board regularly,,,,,and I do mean everyone, going back to the time of ColX, knows full well about my feelings for both Mexico and it's people. That is not even subject to debate. I can come up with plenty of threads (you can look for yourself) where I have been accused of being biased toward Mexico and against Colombia. A few times, (at least twice) I was accused of being a Mexican trying to pass myself off as a Colombian.

You took one line, (the taco one) and from that alone, you thought you knew what I was all about. My suggestion to you....go do some Google work on this site and see all the positive and like praises I have given to the Mexican community. You will be eating your words big time///and maybe apologizing for your false assertions.

As to me prefering to hire a Colombian over a Mexican.....well, why not? They are my people after all. I am as Latino as anyone else. And us Latinos....ALWAYS like to hire their "own" where they can....

Chicago is the best example. In certain areas where the Mexican dominate, (painting, metal work, auto body work) they only hire Mexicans. In the school system, where the Puerto Ricans dominate, the PR are very open about the fact that they will hire their own people even when the Mexican candidate is better qualified. And guess what all that means.....the Colombians in my city end up with....for lack of a better word...."jack shit". We get screwed from both Latino groups. Does it make a difference? Of course it does. My Colombian people have foot hold no where. The Gringos don't like us either. They accuse us of being a bunch of drug dealers....no matter what position or professio we hold. I am not ashamed of trying to do something for one of my Colombian brothers or sisters. They are my blood and my people. And damn it, if I and people like me don't look after my people, then who will?

I should update things though. My Mexican hiree has been warming up to me a bit. Emails, and a requests to talk to me about things. She woke up. I taught her a very good lesson. I avoided her completely. And after three days, it drove her nuts. She came around. She finally realized that not every gringo loves Latinos. She is starting to understand what Somos Latinos really means. Hence.......things are looking up.

for, only about 35 years, on that small beach, and has never
had to make a call on the great white telephone.
tambien, if your dates are the kind with their nose up in the air, go to those places in el centro, and, have a yuppie party.
you can pretend you are in carmel..
on the other hand,...cartagena al fresco...que rico!!
...but maybe not for you.

BTW..working in cartagena??...DEA???

To Timothy Leary....aka....OldGringo..........=P..jejeje.. hey MC..
ever heard of peter tosh??..jamaican?

.....Sorry, not a big reggae fan, or a fan of his…isnt he related to Timothy Leary??? =)

him say: don't care where you com from..
if you're a black man, you're an african.
him also say: legalize it, don't criticise it….

....hmmm, and your point is, OG?

and for someone who says they love colombia so mucho,
why be afraid to participate in the local culture…

....Umm., maybe I will when I live there and have only time on my hands like you, but until then, I have to pay the bills….besides, I like my intestinal track the way it is…=)

...hmm…ok, I am happy for you… tourist paranoia?…no, I just like my food a certain way….i guess that you have a problem with the way I like my food? I dont concern myself with the eating habits of others, but if that is important to you in your life, knock yourself out, OG…..=P

tambien, if your dates are the kind with their nose up in the air, go to those places in el centro, and, have a yuppie party…

…….why does who I date concern you? I have had my share of street taquerias, so you say I should not eat at nice restaurants when I am on vacation?? I am a baby boomer, not from the yuppie era…wrong generation , OG…umm..your generation was the generation that swallowed goldfishes for kicks, right???......jejejejeje…..

you can pretend you are in carmel…

....El Centro is hardly Carmel……..but you can pretend you are in Haight-Ashbury in SF….

Cartagena…...but maybe not for you.

…...like you are “The Expert in CTG ?? or are you now the self-appointed “veteran of CTG who judges whether CTG is for some people or not? Hmmm….Your comments are starting to make me believe that there might just be some validity to the claims that there are long-term side-affects to staying stoned 24/7……or, that Timothy Leary is still alive and well living on a boat off the coast of Colombia..jejejjejej =)

But seriously, OG..

Playing the role of a stoned 24/7 Thurston Howell III from Gilligans Island doesn’t sound appealing to me, but if it “floats your boat I am happy for you, and wish you the best. Your eating habits and choices of where to eat do not concern me. The OP asked for recommendations for good places to eat, which i understood to be safe, easy to find, where the food is good, so I offered him some suggestions. If he had requested info on hard to find, unknown places where the health factor is unknown, but good food, then I wouldn’t have responded, and you probably would have ..jejeje…

BTW..working in cartagena??...DEA???...

......i can neither deny or confirm the allegations….....but I do work for an agency with stupid 3 and 4 letter acronyms, where a person gets promoted to their level of incompetency (naturally I am stuck on the bottom..hahaha!) …but I will soon be a RMF if that gives you a clue……

Just my opinion...

Platano...July 1, 2006 (21 days..)..is the date our new ... retirement contract kicks in with additional pension amounts...i am actually able to retire, without the additional payouts, on June 20, but it is better to wait until the new contract is in effect....then, i have to wait an additional payperiod to go..but my last day physically is July 1, and on paper July 15...its almost hilarious all the hoops they make you go through, i am glad i have to do it only once! jejeje....but sometimes i forget to manually change the date below.. I even have to do an "exit interview" so i thought, "Cool, i can blast some of the idiots in charge here" but then they said no personell bashing....takes all the fun out of it!!!

Anyway, the atmosphere in

I was so enamoured with Mexico that I kissed the ground goodbye on my way to the airplane. Nevermind Colombia, I had to be dragged to the plane, I didn't want to leave my country."
