Subject: one of those days...
hello friends... while we e mail now i'm sharing a conversation i just had--
now--with dr. mik hamilton. that conversation was along the lines of the real
'doldrum' nature of today, here in daytona beach, florida, march 11th, 2005.
it's a friday, 4:37p.m. EDT. and the tail end of what we call 'bike week' here
in daytona. there's two more days left. it started a week ago.
unfortunately, after a week, the 100's of t000's of bikers here have not had
one real nice sunny, warm day. there were a couple of sunny days, but cold,
windy, nippy ones. made worse if you're riding a motorcycle. so, we've got
thousands of bummed out, cold bikers, riding aimlessly around the city, cold.
really, like a friend of mine described it, '.....just another dull day in suck
city.....'. and it really is.
now, add to the blues of the bikers, my own personal lament....on tuesday last,
my car...my only car...a 1987 GMC Jimmy, died of a 'massive, fatal coronary'.
the block cracked. it's dead, and i'm on foot. now if that doesn't qualify as
a definite, 'dull day in suck city', i don't know what does.
what this is about, is to ask each of you how your friday afternoon, march
11th, 2005, about 4:45 p.m, is??? is it in the stars? was it a dull drag in
your area? or what?
Please give it a thought and get back with me. i told mik i was gonna ask
ya'll and post a question on a site where folks talk about their colombia
experiences/memories, etc. so i'll get feedback from latin america, india,
europe and the middle east.
so, brothers and sisters, how was your day? (Friday, March 11th, 2005; 4:45p.
m.) it will be interesting to see how the world mood thermometer reads.
'
thanks for giving your input. i'll share it with everyone.
thanks again,
douglas
i will share the results with the other's on the original e mail to my friends. thanks for the input.

adrimm says on Mar 11, 2005, 16:10: Not 4:45 yet ;) BUT at about 3:45 I found out that I can indeed go to Spain in a month and a half, and then Colombia in September. Was hoping for Col in June, but the possibility of going is more real now than before.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 11, 2005, 16:18: average teenagers, average mum most of the teenagers are just average, with average problems, average rebellion, average insecurity. Give'em the average treatment. If you're not home at the average time you're in average trouble. It all evens out in the long run. adrimm says on Mar 11, 2005, 16:26: Kat1 I'm hiking the Camino Santiago, :) and it's going to a very affordable vacation. Probably about 670 pounds total for one month - and 65% of that is the flights (nearly 1/2way around the world for me).

Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 11, 2005, 16:35: adri! are you telling us that you'll be taking the archifamous pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela? Starting from where? Gods, I envy you. adrimm says on Mar 11, 2005, 17:32: Wellll I haven't bought my ticket *yet*, but I now have the time off for sure. Where I start from depends on how long I can dedicate to the trail. I would have loved to have started in Arles and gone for 2 mos, but at most I'll have about 28 days before I must be home. I had been thinking of about 3 weeks trail time(Pamplona start) with a few days in London on the way home. BUT I just realised that I could save myself alot of hassle on another personal project if I take a little detour for a few days, so that could shorten my trail time.

miamimike says on Mar 11, 2005, 20:49: Calle OCHO en Miami Here in miami everyone is getting ready to head for Calle 8 and it looks like great weather-no rain, mild temps. and lots of Sun. I'm heading there Sunday-the big and crazy day.Should be Fun! "Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? ... That's interesting. Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 12, 2005, 01:50: adri I've always dreamed about walking that trail to Santiago de Compostela. The Pamplona start is a popular one, from what I've heard. Maybe one day...when I'm not too busy going to Finland and spending all my vacations there to be with my mother. My idea is getting a little group together, just two or three, taking it easy and stopping for a day or two in each town. If you go ahead with this trip I'd like to get the details how it went, where you started, how long time it took, how long distances can be leisurely covered in a day etc. "I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don't always agree with them."-President George W. greenday says on Mar 12, 2005, 04:13: to all of you "average people" I had a fantastic, spectacular day (like most of my days)!!!!!!
|
|
Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 12, 2005, 05:26: we have a little problem with semantics here, and it's all my fault. I meant "average" in the same sense as the Swedish word "lagom". It means just enough, not less, no more than just what's needed to be good, perfect and yet not overwhelming or extravagant. As such, there are no "lagom" people since it doesn't translate into mediocricity. "I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don't always agree with them."-President George W. Bush |

kat1 (Moderator) says on Mar 12, 2005, 10:03: humble pie? Greenday. hehehe engage brain before opening mouth |
|
greenday says on Mar 12, 2005, 10:47: well, It's good to know that you all are getting by with just enough (lagom translation)...and humble pie kat1??? why can't someone think that their life and accomplishments and personalities are more than average (or more than just enough)...for me I'd rather admit that, than admit I live just an "average" existence...plus name me one great person in history who accomplished anything of value, who thought that they were just average...heck, even Jesus caught flack from the Pharisees when He proclaimed Himself the Son of God, (amongst other things)...so you folks can wallow in your "averageness", or "just enough to get byness", as for me every day is fanatastic..."me sobra mucho, pero mucho corazon"!!!!!
|
|
Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 12, 2005, 11:17: no confusion here mr.greenday. I would rather say that a tí no te sobra mucho corazón sino muchas palabras and you have a true talent of manipulation of words, lifting them out of context and rearranging them to fit your purposes. Leave the son of the carpinter out of this, I'm not an expert in Bible interpretations but seem to recall that he said something about the humble inheriting the earth... "I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don't always agree with them."-President George W. Bush |

stevens says on Mar 12, 2005, 11:43: Lleras Park and Las Palmas in Medellin I slept until 11 because I went to a reggae concert and then Berlin (a bar) Thursday night. Washed my clothes and studied Spanish. In the evening went to Lleras Park with fellow hostelers. We were just soaking up the vibe and waiting for a while before going to Mangos when some friendly Colombians waved us over. We hung out with them and eventually went to a disco in Las Palmas with them. Stayed until 2 am. Made friends. Very very nice people. There is a party at my hostel tonight with two DJs. Don't pinch me. If this is a dream I don't want to wake up although I could use a nap.
