Fresh Water Fishing In Colombia

Any information about fresh water fishing anywhere in Colombia, including impoundments and rivers would be welcome. Any fresh water fish, not just trout. I spent some years in Ecuador and had some fine trout fishing east of Quito and in some of the Amazon headwaters.

Others here have asked this question at times but evidently not many posting here go to Colombia for Fishing Excursions, unless its the green liquid filled bottle bass variety. I've been to Lago Guatavita( north of Bogota) a few times but seldom see anyone fishing there and when I did, no one was catching anything. This website offers day fishing trips to Rio Magdalena for its Tarpon as well as other types.

If you looking for that World Class Trout fishing, head to Chile or Argentina,,,Lots of it there

As I've said before Hay Muy Poco!

Colombians have NFI how to conserve fisheries be they fresh or salt-nets and dynamite are common Colombian methods of fishing-thus there is very very little left anywhere these days.

I asked about fishing not too long ago. I read that there is good fishing in the major rivers in the east of Colombia ... river Meta, Orinoco, etc. Here is a picture of a fish caught across the border in Venezuela. I know they are in Colombia also, but the word is they are a little smaller. The name of this species is payara. (sp?) Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Oh, I forgot to say: When I asked locals, they told me they use a hunk of raw chicken or a rat as bait. According to what I read on the Internet, using big versions of the same lures we use here in the US for bass, pike, musky, etc. are the best baits. Big spoons, top water buzz baits, etc.
