French Visa

How difficult is to get the French Visa, i want to bring my nephew here to the UK but i would like to take him to France, I know he has to apply for the French Visa while in Colombia, but somebody told me it is very difficult to get that visa, he said because is the Schengen visa, he can apply for this visa in another embassy like Portugal saying he is going to Portugal and with it he can also enter France is that true?

Here's some info for you that could be a good start... yes, Portugal along with France can be visited with the same visa.

BTW

IT'S GETTING IMPOSIBLE FOR COLOMBIANS TO TRAVEL HERE TO THE UK.!!!
1) No direct flight here
2) transit visa to go trough the USA and now through France
3) fewer airlines with short conections

Visa situation is bad enough as it is for Colombians. I've heard a lot that it's nearly impossible to get any type of visa for the US... about the only way is marriage but that can take a long time too.

I can't believe that the fact that a Colombian citizen who has a valid UK Visa is not exempt from this transit visa. A joke if it is so!

dearest kat....you need only employ your lovely smile and sincere charm and there will be no problems in front of you....i personally promise.

A schengen visa is valid for all memeber countries of the schengen treaty, wherever you get it. For example my wife and I travelled to Spain with her german visa without any problem.

England ist not a member of schengen yet, though.

thur says on Nov 12, 2007, 01:38:

One should apply for the Schengen visa where the most amount of time will be spent. In case that's unclear or equal amount of time in spent in several countries then one should apply for the visa at the embassy of the point of entry. On the application form one's asked for reservations that cover the entire trip, applying to Portugal in this case seems impossible (although I don't know how strict the Portuguese embassy is in enforcing the rules).

"- Reserva de hotel. La reserva de hotel debe cubrir exactamente todos los días y las fechas del período que cubre la reserva de vuelo, especialmente si se planea visitar más de un país Schengen, en cuyo caso, debe incluir también estas reservas. Una declaración como “un buen hotel" es insuficiente e inaceptable."

Whether or not a French transit visa is required while being in the posession of a valid UK visa (for tourists) is best to be inquired at the French embassy seeing as the above statement is rather unclear about which type of visa exempt the colombian from having to apply for a transit visa.

Do you need an airport transit visa?

"You do not require an airport transit visa if you hold a LEAVE TO REMAIN IN THE UNITED KINGDOM FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD or a valid residency permit for one of the European Countries, for Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, for Andorra, for Japan, for Canada, for Monaco, for San Marino, for Switzerland or for the USA.
Similarly, you do not require an airport transit visa if you hold a Diplomatic, Service, Official or Special passport."

A disgrace in my opinion. 60 euros as well. Does anyone have any experience of this requirement?

you should get a direct flight from buenos aires or something. she can fly to mexico or buenos aires or brazil, then she could get a direct flight to england. a more expensive route, but you don't need a visa to travel within latin america

kalder says on Nov 13, 2007, 00:46:

You occasionally hear rumours about a direct flight being reinstituted, eg: Avianca opening up a Stanstead-Bogota route.

Anyone else hear/know of anything in this department?

I hope so Kalder, USA has a lot of flights to Colombia, while we are very limited here, we need at least one direct flight to go there!

I don't know why BA stopped

BA couldn't sell enough of its Business Class tickets on the London-Bogota run to make a profit.

It is off topic sort of, but it amazes me that it is difficult to get a French visa for visiting a short amount of time. France seems to welcome people from all over the globe to live there. There is no shortage of recent immigrants in France. I guess if you are from Colombia, the rules are different - when places like Iran, Nigeria, and Tunisia are automatic visas.
