French First Lady angers Colombia with cocaine lyric

Bruni angers Colombia with cocaine lyric

Thu Jun 12, 2008

BOGOTA, Colombia - Colombia's foreign minister says a new song by the wife of the French president is "very painful for Colombia."

The song reportedly appears on the third album of model Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, which appears in stores on July 21.

The French daily Le Figaro reports that the song includes these lyrics: "You are my drug / More deadly than Afghan heroin / More dangerous than white Colombian."

Foreign Minister Fernando Araujo said Thursday that "coming from the mouth of the wife of the President of France, this type of statement is very painful for Colombia."

It's not clear if the song refers to President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Colombia produces more than 80 percent of the world's cocaine.

That Italian-French cunt!!

She was probably on coke when she wrote that lyric. Now I won't be visiting France any time soon!

It's funny how these articles always end with that statement, yet they somehow neglect to tell us who snorts most of that cocaine.

She's a moron, but the song isn't a big deal. i mean, if the minister hadn't made a big deal about it, only about ten people would have bought the album, now everybody wants to hear it.

Lcacique says on Jun 13, 2008, 23:50:

Colombia to this day produces roughly 80% (I would not be surprised if it was higher) of the world's cocaine. While Bolivia and Peru cultivate coca, much of it is still transported into Colombia to be processed into cocaine. So, despite the fact that the coca came from those countries, the cocaine was produced in Colombia.

In addition, the ONDCP (the US office that is in control of our drug control policy and keeps stats on our efforts in Colombia) show a spike in coca cultivation over the past few years in Colombia. They attribute this to a wider area surveyed. If this is true, one wonders what the hell they were doing in the previous years...uhhh, they knew that Colombia was producing tons of cocaine yet they were not performing a thorough search for cultivations?!? All we heard in the build up for Plan Colombia is that the cultivation of coca in Colombia was massive, yet 6 years later they are just now observing a wider area...how inept are they? And it is a documented fact that destruction in one area = replanting in another; therefore, they should have been well aware of the fact that they needed to police a wide area (Not that it matters, they cannot eradicate coca).

In addition, their numbers cannot be taken seriously because they recently began using a confidence interval of 90% (an admission that previous estimates were far from an exact science). For example, in 2006 they presented a range with a low value of 125,800 hectares of coca and a high value of 179,500. That is a huge range and the fact that they are only using a 90% confidence interval speaks volumes about the ambiguity of such measurements.

As for the song, who gives a damn. It probably sucks anyway.

Simon, the whole world knows that the majority of cocaine ends up in the USA. That is not a secret.

Why call her an "italian/french c..t"?

In co.blog members learn to attack Colombia as hyenas do when they see a weak and different and lonely prey. The new members must follow the gangs’ flow of thinking to survive.
That site also has a pretty structured ideology against Colombia and sometimes they utilize lots of sarcastic remarks or supposedly ‘funny’ comments to get their message across.
Members of FARC? It's very possible but with a twist.

Then they agree with me...that's what I've been saying all along. The safest country is not the one with most police and military guarding people and property, but a country that does not need any of that. The mere sight of uniforms creates an atmosphere of fear and raises the issue of safety to a top priority.

I agree Desi, the sight of uniforms and machineguns makes most normal people feel a bit uneasy (as opposed to safe). My parents who live in Colombia don't get used to it, and whenever my dad goes to Israel it takes him some time to get used to kids with uzis in restaurants having a drink during lunch time. I don't know what kind of idiot feels safe whenever they see that sort of thing.

CK- I've definitely seen it in Colombia as well... some towns in Valle del Cauca are very 'caliente' as they say. Though for me the uneasiness comes even just from armed 'security' at Colombian malls after an extended stay in Canada.

Cerealkiller says on Jun 16, 2008, 08:59:

Yeah it is awkward. I understand how malls could be targets for terrorism, but I cannot help but wonder how would anyone feel safer. I mean clearly the poor bastard with the gun is under tons of pressure, anyone can snap in a moment of confusion. Afterall, they're just humans with a gun... I wonder if they felt that 'safe' if security people in malls were not wearing uniforms at all...because that is ultimately what it is, a civilian who underwent a week of training and was given a gun. I completely reject this cuture of terror, this whole being afraid deal is getting a bit ridiculous IMO. But When Carla Bruni says "colombian cocaine"...now that is DEEP SHIT.

For me it's funny not because of the implied cocaine consumption lyrics... but because I could see quite a few Colombians singing this song because they owe their status, power, livelihood, etc. to the white powder. Even if they're not considered narcos per say.
