Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 14, 2008, 09:42: That poor boy. What a tough start in life. I hope he and Clara Rojas are able to make a really good mother-son bond and lead a terrific life after all they've been through.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Jan 14, 2008, 10:00: I don't know the first thing about medicine, but it seems a minor miracle that a 40 year-old woman survived a "kitchen knife C-section" (as it was described in one of the press accounts) in the middle of the jungle.

Desi1 (Moderator) says on Jan 14, 2008, 12:16: The Cesarean was performed by Farc people with only 2-year medical training. I suppose they had the antibiotics and sterilisation equipment necessary; I understand that the operation in itself is not very complicated. Anyway, they're both lucky to have survived in such primitive circumstances.

Sam Salmon says on Jan 14, 2008, 13:02: It'll be a while but he'll adapt. ' a la orden!' |

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 14, 2008, 14:18: I've been witness to a couple cesareans. Not brain surgery, for sure, but it would be really easy for things to go badly awry. Desi is right that they're both lucky to have survived.
