PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post |
I was reading posts in this forum about learning spanish. I am doing just that. My wife and I are in the process of adopting a child from Colombia. A few people mentioned using CD's from the Foreign Service Institute. I googled them and come up with nothin. Do these guys have a website???

caslug says on Sep 28, 2005, 16:02: You can get them at.. barnesandnoble.com or amazon, i think i got mine at borders or barnesandnoble store. However, while they are decent, they require LOTS of concentration(you cant listen and practice in your car) because you have to follow a workbook. My friend got a copy at the local library, so you might try there also. I would recommend pimsleur and michael thomas spanish instead. Pimsleur is excellent at learning basic pronunciation while thomas is good at explain basic grammar rules. Thomas spanish is at $30USD, i got it at BN store, while pimsleur is more expensive when bought new($125USD), BUT you can get them on ebay or such lot less. Both are good for learning by osmosis(listen while you drive or doing something else).

mikes71 says on Sep 28, 2005, 16:16: still need help :) Thanks caslug, for the other suggestions. I've been working on the basics with some other materials. I think I still want the FSI stuff. I searched amazon, borders, and B&N and still can't find. Maybe I'm being stupid, it happens occasionally. Could you post the ISBN's of the FSI stuff that you bought? Who's the publisher? Tx.

Neonovo says on Sep 29, 2005, 10:57: How about a similar venue to learn English on? We are looking to material in the libraries, but the ESL material is kind of lame.

vladimiro says on Sep 29, 2005, 11:19: Pimsleur Inglis I,II, and III volumes are excellent but expensive(and are probably difficult to get via file sharing, though some libraries have them). After Pimsleur, advanced FSI CDs are also available for English for SPanish speakers.
