For those Medellin and surrounding area Residents....Need some info please!!!

Can anybody here, those who reside in Medellin and surrounding areas, give me some feedback and information on parcelación El Rodeo, called the Occidente cercano which is conformed by San jerónimo, Sopetrán y Santa Fé de Antioquia.

1. How far a drive from Rionegro Airport, and Medellin ( El poblado).
2. Is it a safe and well inhabited area. (slums, ect)
3. Good and paved roads and streets
4. Crowded, Quiet
5. Good highway access to MDE
6. Supermarkets
7. Public Services, ie, Electricity, Water, Garbage collection, Cable/Internet/Phone, banks, etc.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Specially interested in Sopetran.
Thanks
Cheers

These towns you mention are around 90 minutes from Medellin and for the most part, the roads are paved. There has been a detour on the tunnel route from Medellin to Santa Fe requiring you to drive through San Jeronimo for the last 8 months or so which increases the drive time by maybe 15 minutes..

For the most parts the places are weekend getaways and yes, safe. I would not say there are slums, however there are parts of these towns that are not as fancy as the resorts. But walking in the town and hanging out at the local bars and eating foods from the various street vendors (which I enjoy so much) is what I would consider safe.

The markets are not as large as the ones in Medellin, however there is a great variety of foods - when I am in Santa Fe I shop at the "farmers market" for all the fruits and veggies which are very, very good.

Internet for the most part is available via cable in San Jeronimo, however, from that I know in Santa Fe it is available only via dialup. There is a hot spot in the square of Santa Fe and 10,000 pesos gives you about 4 hours of internet time via a Orbatel pre-paid card. The electricity is reliable, during 3 weeks at Christmas, Santa Fe was in the dark on New Years eve for maybe 2 hours.

There for awhile I was going to the area monthly for 3 days, however as of recently I have been going to Andes, Jardin, Guatepe and El Penol.

Larry, thanks for the info, I am looking into Sopetran, not Santa Fe, I think Santa Fe is a bit too far from MDE, I am talking about a parcelacion called el Rodeo in Sopetran. Are you familiar?
