For those interested in Colombian literature: García Márquez interviews

I found a short documentary on Gabo. Here's a small sample for those interested.

If you search youtube there are several more where he talks about each book, his influences and writing in general. I believe this available through amazon.com on DVD.

I knew there was something missing in my life, recently; I haven't been reading a page or three of Marquez every other day, since finishing 'Memoires of My Melancholy Whores'. I still don't understand why that book was 'controversial in Colombia'.

The guy is fun to read.
I'm going to B & N tonight to get another book.
What should I read next?

Ciao! Gustav.

gabo, I enjoyed it much.
It's only a lil over 100 pages.
(I can't read those 300 page novels the girlz read at the beach)
The guy writes in such a way that I relate to this thoughts.
He's very talented, gifted.
GGM. Si!

Ciao! Gustav.

goin_south,

You really can not go wrong with Gabo. Clearly, one of his most celebrated books is "100 Years of Solitude" which is often referred to as a 400 page vallenato! It is the book that won him the Nobel. It is excellent, but some people find it overwhelming/confusing (partly because many characters have very similar names). Nevertheless, it is a must read for anyone who wants to know about Colombia (I'd even recommend reading it twice as you'll get alot out of it the 2nd time around). "Love in the Time of Cholera" is also masterfully written. American romance is nauseating, but Gabo's story is quite unique with some comedic moments as well. If you want another quick/good read "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" is a very good piece of work. Finally, "News of a Kidnapping" is an exciting, journalistic account of a true event where 10 men and women were kidnapped by the Medellin Cartel in 1990.

Phew...As you can see, I kinda dig his writing. I hope this helps you.
