For the Shakira-haters

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7406759.stm

"Imagine what Latin America could achieve if we invest in developing the potential of these children," Shakira said earlier this week.

"The funny thing is that Latin America produces three times what it needs to feed its population. So, it is doable, we can really eradicate poverty."

Shakira's social work doesn't mean you have to like her music.

The Shakira-haters here generally claimed she did not devote "enough" of her own money to her own foundation, which I find hard to believe. The claim she is merely seeking publicity may have some degree of merit, but so what?

I posted this earlier in this thread. Like I said, I simply am not a big fan of her English songs. I like her old stuff like "Ojos asi", "Donde estas corazon", etc.

We are starting to do a lot of Spanish acts like Shakira, Mana, Paulina Rubio, Enrique Iglesias, etc. but our main business is in Rock, Hiphop, country and other English genres. Unfortunately, Shakira is the only Colombian act that uses us. I would love to see some Carlos Vives, but he simply doesn't widely sell out large concert venues in the US market. I don't know why Juanes doesn't use us.

btw, do you have special access to concert tickets? say if a friend from up north needed a hook up could you facilitate?

I rarely get free tickets, although I got some to a Rush show for a friend who couldn't wait for me to get them and he ended up in the lawn seats and I got second row. I'd never seen them live before, but it was really a great show.

We are normally able to buy from what is called Artist Reserve for local shows. They always hold back a certain number of good tickets for the artist or management to give out. However, we normally pay full price, but get great seats.

Unfortunately, the reps at our company like to play gatekeeper and can be real dicks about it. You have never seen such self-importance from people who effectively do nothing more than take phone orders. If you are ever in Houston and want to see a show, let me know and I'll tell you if I can help. PM me and I'll send you a link were you can see our active tours.

CG- yeah, I wasn't talking free. just some tickets are very hard to get a hold off as they sell out within minutes if not seconds... I should have enough frequent flyer points to get down to Houston for a couple of good shows so don't disregard this as rubbish talk because I will take you up on it if a good show comes about in Houston, there's so many non-stop flights to Houston as you are our sister city (actually Calgary is probably the little sister of Houston) a lot of my engineer friends are in Houston a large portion of the year.

WM,

I don;t have a problem from a nationalistic standpoint, but I am very leary of doing business with any Mexican companies. I have a lot of experience in Mexican business dealings. They are extremely corrupt and known for extremely poor quality standards. I have seen time and time again that even large Mexican companies like Pemex and Cemex will screw their vendors and their clients without batting an eye. My dad lost several hundred thousand dollars in dealings with Mexican companies and my current business partner for my side company got screwed by companies in Mexico.

Also, wasn't the problematic cement for the Transmilenio sourced from Cemex?

About damn time! Although I don't doubt she felt the pressure for not doing more. But why weren't the concerts in Colombia? It looks to me like she doesn't want to touch it with a 10 foot pole. I also liked how Juanes dissed her. His plane couldn't take off and he couldn't find another way to get to the concert. I'm sure he said "La chimba! Yo no voy a eso y ella por qué no vino al mío!" We got it Juanes, you had plane difficulties (wink, wink).

But don't get me wrong, I'm sure Shakira will go to Colombia to see how the poor children of El Chocó are doing... just in time when her next album comes out. XD
