(for horseplayers) A Colombian ships north...

A Colombian horse that is! Looks like the only Colombian bred horse I'm aware of here in the states has left the Southern California circuit to head for the cooler climes of Golden Gate Fields.

Horse is named Buen Mozo.

Watch him in today's 4th from GG. Wonder if the morning line guy there in Berkeley knows something? After a summer of scratches and unimpressive races at looooong odds (50-1 or higher) showing no speed whatsoever this Colombian colt winds up at 4-1 on the morning line in this cheap claiming race up at GG.

Here´s a link for the chart. He was the $2.30-1 favorite. I´ll put a watch on him to see where he runs next out.

Why dont they try him on the turf with his breeding:
Horse Name: Buen Mozo (COL)
Born: 01/18/2004
Sex: Colt
Sire: Election Day (IRE)
Dam: Maleja (ARG)

Maybe he was bred somewhere around Bogotá and the change of scenery from SoCal to chilly and damp Bay Area weather caused him to perk up with memories of his old Colombian home!

That must have been one soft race for a perennial 50-1 plodder to go off as the 5-2 favorite.

Turf would be worth a try. He's definitely a late runner; no early speed. GG has just switched over to a synthetic surface and his previous race at Hollywood was also a mile on synthetic.

He's been on my watch list just for novelty value ("hey, look, a Colombia-bred!") but maybe now he has some investment potential too!

I have seen Colombia breds but they are few and far between. Invasor one of the best classic horses in a long time was a Uruguayan bred. Richard Mandella has had resounding success picking up south american stock. I actually have a few of his Brazilian breds he just brought up on my horse watch.
