For anyone that still has doubts about the dictatorial ways of Chavez

This poster is in all Venezuelan government agencies. The main captions says:

Top -- ‘Recognize These People!’ ‘Enemies of the State!’

Bottom -- ‘Merchants of Terror!’ ‘Manufacturers of Lies’, ‘It Is Forbidden to Forget!’

The photos on the poster are of various owners of media outlets such as local newspapers and TV stations. What may catch your attention is the seal of the U.S. Department of State as the background

I got this on my email:
Extracts from an interview by Jorge Ramos (UNIVISION, yeah yeah we know...) made in 1998 BEFORE he was elected.

Yes we all had doubts but now I am convinced. I wish I had known this before and I would not have been so iffy about Chavez. Good work detective.

Chavez is now copying his hate propaganda from Joseph Goebbels. The Nazis had the exact same posters on Jews. Where is the left wing outrage?

I am not surprised that this poster puts you to sleep Sr. T, but had Uribe made it against left wing journalists, we know your reaction would have been quite different.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Sr Tertius says on Feb 21, 2008, 06:07:

Uribe knows better: Posters are too expensive. He gives them a call. It adds a personal touch to being threatened.

I wouldn`t expect less from you Sr. T...

Here it`s a new one, just fresh out of the oven:

http://www.semana.com/wf_InfoArticulo.aspx?idArt=109503

I know Venezuela doesn`t have much agriculture (one driving by in the coutry side can see Kms of fields just not cultivated or farmed). But in an-oil-rich-country [that`s $$$$], with a climate so perfect for agriculture [that`s production means], it`s just surreal they don`t have food !!
May be I`m too dumb to understand that.

Here are some other posters that put Sr. T asleep:

What is he going to tell us now, that Uribe closed more TV stations than Chavez?

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Sr Tertius says on Feb 21, 2008, 06:57:

What puts me to sleep is the how monothematic and autistic you guys have become. If you really want to discuss these topics, check some old threads. Now, if you just want to exhibit your hysteria, well, good job!

"What is he going to tell us now, that Uribe closed more TV stations than Chavez?"

Well, how many TV stations in Colombia have supported a coup against Uribe? What would you expect would happen to, say, NBC if it called its audience to overthrow the US government?

Wait, are we discussing this YET AGAIN?! Back to sleep... zzzz...

I'd say that louder.

"The thread was agaisnt Chavez. It was masterly siwfted to what-would-Uribe-do?"

And PBH is about Colombia, not Venezuela. That's why I try to relate topics to Colombia in an honest discussion, not "against" anything.

Sr. Tertius where the hell have you been????? Damn, good to see ya back, i did think PBH was getting a little to conservative without you.

Yeah and its not like what Venezuela does has any affect on colombia..shittt they might has well be on the other sides of the planet from each other.

All right, I'll ask: How come it took three seconds to euthanize Eight Belles, but the Womens NBA is starting Year 12???

tasco66 says on Feb 21, 2008, 07:35:

Sr. T. please show me where RCTV called its audience to overthrow the Chavez government?

In any case, Chavez having organized a failed coup d'état in 1992 against former President Carlos Andrés Pérez should not be giving lessons to anyone on this topic.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Yeah..i meant shiaattt its not like Venezuela is one of colombias biggest trading partners or the fact that Chavez is constantly interfering in Colombian politics.

All right, I'll ask: How come it took three seconds to euthanize Eight Belles, but the Womens NBA is starting Year 12???

Sr Tertius says on Feb 21, 2008, 08:15:

Check the footage from the documentary "The revolution will not be televised"

"Chavez having organized a failed coup d'état in 1992 against former President Carlos Andrés Pérez"

And he went to jail for that. So where are the RCTV people now? are they in jail too? Just so that you know, I've also been critical of the process against RCTV and the pressure that Chavez is putting on private media, but none of that amounts to the hysterical claims that Chavez is nationalizing all media.

Esanch, Jorge, call me crazy, but isn't Colombian politics more relevant to Colombia than whatever Chavez is posting on his door?

It is funny to hear a guy who came to fame because of a coup d'état complaining about coups d'état!

He went to prison alright. Like Pablo Escobar at la catedral.

Sr Tertius says on Feb 21, 2008, 09:14:

It is indeed ironic, Jaramillo, but it doesn't legitimize it. Not my kind of humor either.

I actually don't know much about Chavez's imprisonment conditions. Why do you think CA Perez was so generous with him? It's not like he had to negotiate anything with Chavez, no?

Sr. T. when there is a coup, the first thing the new regime in power does is take control of the media.

This is what happened with RCTV. Everything that was shown in support of the new President was done after the Chavez government had been overthrown. You still have not shown me RCTV calling its audience to overthrow the Chavez government. Not even your Chavista propaganda movie shows this. Good try though.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

I second webmanco.

tasco66 says on Feb 21, 2008, 11:00:

This video shows that the coup had already started and that various political personalities (not TV personnel) of unidentified TV stations were calling for the avoidance of a bloodshed.

That’s pretty different from your statement

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Sr Tertius says on Feb 21, 2008, 11:09:

REALLY? What did I say?

Did I say that they started it?

or did I say they supported it?

Isn't showing the conspirators on TV calling for overthrowing the legitimate government (sure, give up and we'll avoid a bloodshed... that sounds reasonable!) not a support for the coup?

So I guess if there was a real threat that, say, FARC could take power (a very hypothetical scenario) and Caracol decided to air Tirofijo calling Uribe to give up to avoid a bloodshed, nahhh... that wouldn't constitute support for FARC, eh?

I am sorry but if a Farc commando took over control of Caracol TV and had Tirofijo calling Uribe to give up to avoid a bloodshed or whatever else, you could not blame the TV station for it or call it support of Farc.

Nice try to divert the discussion from my question “"Sr. T. please show me where RCTV called its audience to overthrow the Chavez government?" and about my original post about how Chavez portrays the media that is unfavourable to him in Venezuela. I must admit you are pretty good at this stuff.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Sr Tertius says on Feb 21, 2008, 11:32:

I didn't say that a FARC commando took Caracol. Read it again. Or are you saying that the conspirators took over RCTV? Sorry, man, but that's FAR from the truth.

You asked me to show you something and I did. What else were you expecting?

gatogris says on Feb 21, 2008, 11:37:

Well, let's say we agree with George W. Bush and his stated opinion that protest is a healthy part of global politics. How best to protest? You could argue that, in terms of leftist tactics, resistance within the capitalist state -- such as protesting -- actually legitimizes the democratic-liberal system by showcasing the freedom of its citizens, and is therefore counter to the goals of leftist-revolt. From this point of view, leftists should use the machinery of the state to actively usurp power, as Hugo Chavez has done in Venezuela. Once state power has been seized, whether by coup or democratic election, from a tactical point of view, it should be used "ruthlessly" to reinvent the political system to better reflect socialist values.

From an efficacy point of view, this makes a certain amount of internal sense, and will be familiar to anyone who has read Che's "Guerrilla Warfare" or Mao's "On Protracted War."

However, the problem is, it might be an anachronistic approach ill-suited to modern global realities. Like, it might not work too good.

BTW, the conspirators did take over one channel: Channel 8, VTV. And guess what? They closed it!
