Followup on Orchids

Hello
Just a "birth announcement" a Catellya just flowered with 3 beautiful big flowers. They were a little early but beautiful. I expect to see more varieties after the wet season starts. If anyone wants to visit let me know

I do have pix but I don't know how to post them here. For Rumple these are the same orchid you can buy in a florest shop in the US. Here they grow wild.We just spray their tree crotch with water when we water the other plants. I live about 3 hours from Bogota near the historical source of Emeralds, Somondoco, Boyaca. Curious and want to visit send me an e-mail to w_turley at yahoo.com

this is a little bit dissconected, however I read a fascinating book about 2 years ago about an english botanist and cant remember the other, entonces they met in Panama and walked the darien pass to colombia, foolishly, they were acosted by the farc and held for many months but the passion and interest the botanist kept for orchids was inspiring and what with the fascinating story its a must for you bookshelf

Bill. Is that orchid the one they refer to as the Dracula Orchid. The pic you posted earlier, it looked like it had baby fangs?

Bill Turley says on Feb 29, 2008, 06:04:

Thanks guys I will work on this today. First I will take the photo. I am going out to do that right now. Today my baby dog and I are in exile because he will not accept our housekeeper, So we are in my study with the door closed.

Nice Bill,

My dad used to grow orchids (and made me water them too...grrr) I know how rare is to bossom on like that one
He used cow manure (boñiga in SP) as fertilazer...

HTML tip: you need to copy the box that says "Dirección HTML para sitios Web" for the pic to load on this post. Here it is:

Beautiful, Bill! I used to grow them in Puerto Rico. I think if you pasted "", it would display here. I try.

Well, it did work, but the foto is huge. I guess you need to resize it before send sending to tinypic.

One of mine small ones:

The colored dots at the top are not photo flaws, but lights on the Bay of San Juan.

jorgegdiaz, did you also post Bill's foto? I did, and I wonder which we are looking at.

I grew tired of sending to photobucket, and then loading from there. I refreshed a bit of my HTML knowledge (my books are LONG gone) and discovered how to post directly from my hard-drive.

jorgegdiaz says on Feb 29, 2008, 08:47:

yes, that´s Bill´s Catleya

Thank to all of you guys and girls. Yep this little flower only gets a short spray of water when we water the others, fertilizer, never. My guava tree gets dozens of little Angelito orchids, they are about the size of a quarter. Thanks for the spell check. I think I am the world's worst language student. I avoided English and foreign languages at the University (UofR and FAU)
as much as possible. Yet here I am an English Expert and teach English Teacher, go figure.

I have never regreted my choice for a homestead. Everything here is just about perfect, climate, people, taxes, living costs, closeness to Bogota, Flowers, Birds, Butterflies etc.
