flying to Sincelejo from Barranquilla

I’m thinking of flying to Sincelejo in Sucre and arriving at night. As the airport is ten miles away and travel at night is dangerous, does anybody know if there is a hotel near the airport? Am I right in thinking that the town is full of displaced persons? Would this make it a dangerous place to visit?

Oh come on man, Sincelejo is one of the safest cities in Colombia. What do you think is happening when you get there? Full scale war?

From someone who has actually been there (yeah I know this is a first for PBsH!), no it is not filled with displaced persons and it is not dangerous.

Mr. Sttark, Displaced persons in Sincelejo??
Are you sir trying to say that because Sincelejo is a costeño city they aint got no displaced persons or war or chit?
Are the displaced, and the wars and the and the violence only found in Bogotá Cali and Medellin?
Please do clarify

Sincelejo doesn´t have an airport you have to go to Corozol or Montería.

JS, now that I'm to understand that Sincelejo is not dangerous. Would it be fair to say it's as safe as my hometown? Maybe safer, even?

que nota!

Yes it's safe. As long as you don't express any admiration for Che Guevara. Sure the paracos control Sucre as they do Cordoba but think of them as costeno good ol' boys taking care of the family business. Mind your own business and keep your nose out of theirs.

If you're a gringo who can read Spanish check out the local paper, El Meridiano. The Sucre edition: http://www.elmeridianodesucre.com.co and the Cordoba edition: http://www.elmeridianodecordoba.com.co

I know that Sincelejo doesn't have an airport, that's why it's ten miles away. I plan to fly to Corozol. Thanks for the "local knowledge" I hadn't realised it was "safe" that's good to know.

However the rule in Colombia is not to travel at night so I would prefer to stay the night close to the airport.

When I last visited that area in 2000 with Colombians we flew Cartagena to Corozol and they were very anxious about security, but then Colombians always are. However looking up the internet I see that lots of backpackers travel around there safely.

We all know that Colombia is safe providing you follow the rules.

I take it that you are flying into Corozal and not Monteria cause it takes a minute to get from Monteria to Sincelejo. When I was there flights to Corozal were not offered. Sincelejo is a sleepy little place without much action. Nothing to worry about and I saw quite a few soldiers guarding the roads when I was there. I stayed at the Casa Blanca when I was there and I dont know of any better accomodations. Hotel Boston is supposed to be top notch but I went to the movies across the street from it and it didnt appear to be that grand at first glance and the price is like $100 a night.

No to alarm anyone, unless you are a female, but in Downtown Sincelejo during the last month some "crazy" MF is inyecting women with some unknown substance, at the moment no one has been arrested. The victims have been tested for HIV and other contagious diseases, no results are available as of yet. If you are a female traveling in Sincelejo, please be aware of your surroundings.

I'm just imagining since the OP's name is El flaco, "He" won't then have to worry about getting any injections from J_S.
(unless J_S has changed persuasion as of late)

'what does it mean, when one of you (colombians) tell another: YOU WERE NOT/ARE NOT. 'COLOMBIAN ENOUGH'?? jejeje..a mixture, I think, of stupidity mixed with a false sense of arrogance.. How 'colombian' do you have to be? to be 'colombian enough
