Flying to Bogota - Spending a few Days

Hi,

Just a bit of thanks for the help and advice on this site! It is great!!!

In March, I am scheduled to fly into Bogota, but might have the opportunity to stay a few days with my Colombiana in Bogota (where she would like to meet me), then go to Cali with her and then to Tulua where her parents are. I was wondering what attractions/restaurants/ or other things that I might want to plan for while I am there?

She lived there for 6 years so I would guess that she would know the area, but I want to take the lead on some things/suggestions. Plus any romantic restaurants, places too would help!

My tentative schedule to fly is March 17th and possibly stay about 2 or 3 days (stay 18th, 19th and maybe 20th). Then off to Cali/Tulua for the remainder of the trip. Back home on March 29th. Is two days enough or three better???

Thanks!

Visit Chico! and Carrera 11 or is it 13 that runs along the mountain line of east Bogota, North to South.

There is supposed to be a very nice tropical garden too... near the airport... I haven't been there yet.

Chico has a lot to choose from. I would walk from Carrera 7 west to Carrera 15 from avenues 92, 94, 100... it's a big block, but chauked full of shops, restuarants & bars and all kinds of neat places that are clean and upscale.

Hey! Found cool map http://www.bogota-dc.com/maps/bog-map.htm. At bottom of page you have the big picture and you can zoom in. Look for Chico upper left-hand side. It's a BIG CITY!

Jardin Botanico Maybe bramafear's talking about the Jardin Botanico? The Botanic Gardens? They're lovely. I'd also recommend going up to Monserrate, one of Bogota's two great mountains, going to the Gold Museum, talking a walk around the city's colonial centre - La Candelaria, going to the Flea Market on Sunday on the Carrera 7 with 24, and also the ciclovia there, which is on Sunday. The Carrera 7 is closed off in the mornings and people cycle on the road, walk their dogs, etc, and it's really interesting.

There are loads of things to do, but those are just a few ideaas to get you started!

ShazCas Your're on it! Did I get Carrera 15 right? Monserrate? I haven't made it up there yet, but my Father & Son have :-( Gold Museum? ditto as Monserrate.

I would suggest Old Towne Bogota as well...beautiful Architecture!!!!! and when the clouds side down the mountains and bellow into the streets... WOW!!!

I would add The salt cathedral in Zipaquiera as a must! Hire a taxi driver for the day.
