flowers can kill you Please be aware of all the pesticides that are sprayed on these flowers all the time..right inside the Green Houses....workers are literally dying from these pesicides which are very strong! Some of have protested. I read this recently and just thought it may be of interest to you. Like everything in life it seems there is often ugly side to something beautiful.

I will tell you one thing, you will not find this gringo smelling the flowers in Bogota and if I do buy some there, I will gently wash them in soap and water. Please read this article before you commit to visiting one of these places..

Franko, I recently read an interview with Catalina Sandino Moreno, who starred in the film Maria Full Of Grace. She said that to research her role for the film she went and worked in a Colombian flower plantation. She commented on the pesticides burning her hands and that with people who had worked in there a long time it was as if there skin was melting.
Doesn't sound so good, the workers have to protest more, get themselves some better conditions.

Unfortunately roses require a lot of care, there might be alternatives that are less toxic, but if you want inexpensive roses and don't want worms crawling up your fiance's nose when she smells them they will remain.

I have read similar articles about fields in the US and Mexico spraying chemicals while field workers are still in the fields and allowing them to go right back to work in said fields. Often these workers have their children with them in the fields which is really scary.
