Is this the same as Devil's Weed (Datura)?

Datura was recently the subject of another discussion. If it is, I had the most absolutely mind-blowing experience with this drug. I was given it unwittingly (they disguised it as a tea), luckily though I was not taken advantage of. Crazy hallucinations and ridiculousness. My vision was messed for days afterwards, and actually my first time in Colombia was 2 days after I was given this stuff, my eyes were still fucked.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe Datura is what scopolamine is made from. Interesting (and hope you get better soon) what you said about your eyes. When I got my Coomava medical insurence in Colombia I was surprised to see down at the end of the list of coverages that eye injury resulting from scopolamine attack was covered. Apparently it can do permanent damage. The plant, a small tree is pretty attractive when in flower. The hanging blossoms are huge (white at higher altitudes, pink down in the valley) and give off an intense kind of perfumed soap smell beginning around four thirty in the afternoon and lasting during the night. I´ve gone out with a flashlight to try to see what polinates it (I envision some monster moth) but no luck. The flower has no scent at all in the daytime.

Thank you Atrevido, my eyesight is better. I had this experience in2005. The flower you just listed is the exact plant from which the tea was made of. I was unaware that it was hallucinogenic, i just assumed that it was some sort of Ecuadorian herbal tea (indeed that is what i was told).

As I went insane that night, I remember bits and pieces. I saw a woman giving birth on a floor, and I remember seeing objects that didn't exist on the ground, and trying to pick them up, but not being able to focus on anything up close, therefore never knowing whether I had grasped at the imaginary objects or not. I was given water to drink, and I would take the glass consiously, then drop the glass and spill the water over myself. When I woke up the next morning, I couldn't read any labels because I couldn't focus on objects, very very disconcerting. This gradually got better over a few days. I did have several panic attacks later on because I thought that the drug had had permanent affect on me (indeed since this flower flourishes in that part of the world, there were crazies walking around towns who had taken too much and stayed insane forever). My last panic attack was about a few months after drinking this tea.

I heard one theory on how this stuff affects your eyesight. Apparently your pupils get so dilated that too much light enters, making your eyes sensitive for days. I do not know how accurate this theory is.

That sounds like a plausible theory.. I can't believe they gave you such a strong drug without telling you!

Poor but snappy

A friend of mine tried "the tea" in Ecuador and says she enjoyed her trip, but I suspect she did it with eyes wide open.
