F**k The G8!

Not to sound like a racist, but i am so tired of the center of attention being on Africa! The only reason the world most "poWerful" nations are forgiving the billions of dollars in debt that this country owes because it is not nor will ever be a threat to the power of the "super 8." The country has absolutely no chance in hell of ever recovering from its unfortunate bout with the AIDS epidemic(whether man made or natural)and the strife of civil war which is already a deeply imbedded parasite in many of Africa's regions. Wouldnt that absolution of debt be better directed towards continents which are more on the brink of developing such as South America? Our countries, despite being ravaged by poverty, racism, and the threat of guerilla warfare, still progress more and more everyday despite these setbacks.Any other peoples would have thrown in the towel, yet south americans thrive in the presence of adversity.I think that these powerful nations see that we have the utmost potential to break the EU/United States monopoly of world domination and they would stop at nothing to bring the progression of the REAL America come screaching to a halt.

Que VIVA el pueblo latino, from Mexico to the Falklands.

Here is a thought South Africa is the biggest Gold producer and the biggest (or close to it) diamond producer in the world - the Government can 'take control' of the natural resources - kick the coporations out and become one of the strongest players in the world - something like what Saudi Arabia has become with oil! Wonder if they can get over the fighting and racial annihilation they are bent upon themselves and think for themselves?

Not to sound like a racist... but to sound like one.

For a Colombian, who surely understands what it's like to be stereotyped, to stereotype an entire continent is really lame.

BTW, I don't disagree that the rich countries really should think about forgiving Latin American debt, too.

I would say F*** the world Bank, THE IMF and their cronies (i.e. the G8) but not for the reason you suggest. The Africans are in that mess as a result of years of colonial power intervention. They stuffed up their culture, their borders and have been stealing their richness for the last 500 years and please spare me the “corruption argument”: I haven’t heart of any Swiss bank returning to Africans the billions that dictators have taken. Anyway weren’t western countries supporting guys like Mobuto for many years?

It's not about giving away $1 and then taken $3. It's about fair trade and democracy, it's about changing the rules. International Banks should be accountable for the way they operate by setting conditions that harm the weak. Not only Africans would benefit We Latin Americans would benefit too. I'm a Colombian living in Colombia and all I can say is the gap between rich and poor is getting bigger and bigger.
