Got some friends looking to do a fishing trip. Where are some of the best places for fishing in Colombia? If anyone knows some great freshwater and salt-water places we're looking. Thanks.

Boatygringo says on May 12, 2007, 08:42: Fishing Dont know about good places to fish but don't come to the Caribean side it's all fished out. I dragged a line from San Andres to Cartagen 200 hundred miles behind my boat and didn't even get a hit. I hear the Pacific side is much better. Boatygringo Boatygringo 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Lostgringo says on May 12, 2007, 09:05: Fishing I hear there is a fresh water lake not to far from Medellin that has lots of fish. I will ask around for the exact name of the lake. If you come to Medellin maybe I can arrange something....I haven't had a tight line for awhile now lol. Rainbows or browns, I suspect. I didn't catch any; only ate them. Ciao! Gustav. Bienvenitos, Ike. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Buongone says on May 12, 2007, 09:28: Get ahold of Valle dupar What ever name He's under now? He knows where to go for Tarpon. When you go out off the ocean. You need to know where the walls/canyons are. Big drop offs bring up Big Game Fish. They migrate. Need to troll some big stuff, as some people do on the web forum.

miamimike says on May 12, 2007, 11:06: Someone(poster) had mentioned that Fishing Equipment that you transport from the US really sells well in Colmbia. Anyone know if their is any truth to that? On trips from Bogota to Guatavita North of Bogota I have often wondered if there is much fishing inthat Lake, never see anyone fishing there. My next south american Trip for Fishing is going to be for Trout in southern Chile/Argentina. Great freshwater trout fishing. "Wait a minute. What did you just say? You're predicting $4-a-gallon gas? That's interesting. I hadn't heard that." -- Feb. 28, 2008 --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

David in Idaho says on May 12, 2007, 11:43: That's on my to-do-in-this-lifetime list, MM I do a lot of trout fishing here in Idaho, and it is great. But I've always dreamed of the Argentina/Chile trip. Closest I've come is some wonderful little trout streams in the high Andes around Riobamba, Ecuador. Small fish, but numerous and completely unfamiliar with fishermen and our wily tactics.

Buongone says on May 12, 2007, 14:11: Fishing Equipment $$$$ It seems like to me that most people in Colombia do not know about fishing. Whether it be they are too poor, or too far from the fishing area's, I don't know. You check the web and it brings up mostly Nada. Like I said Mikey Valledupar would be the one to Check with. If you look at a map of Colombia. Down from Cartagena along the coast. Past the Marine Sanctuary. I believe it past a place called Mosquillo. (Might have the name wrong) Anyway there is a town down that way. There was a thread on it. On the web, they talk about Indians and rivers. Big giant white fish of some type.

Buongone says on May 12, 2007, 14:21: Tarpon at Taganga I was told that you can get the Panganeros to take you out off of Taganga. Let them have the fish and they might try alittle harder for you. Tarpon like to congregate out off of where a river meets the ocean. In CR we jigged with the small white jig. Jig it off the bottom of the ocean, in about 40-50 feet of water. You get a hit. Slam it once, reel down, slam it again, reel down and slam it once more. About that time the Tarpon will be Airborne, putting on a nice show. We were using medium spinning rods/reels w/20 lb line. Caught and released a few. The largest ovr 115 lbs. There was a thread from Valledupar. But I believe it was deleted. But I'm going to check it out when I go to Santa Marta, next time down south.
