Fishing In Colombia

I'm going to be in Pereira on the 17th. I want to get some fishing in. Any good areas to fish? Also are there any requirements to fish legally?

Many thanks, -Todd

No license but if you hike down to the Pacific you might be the catch. There is trout fishing in the area.

Gator, the trout you mention, I take it is around Bogota and of the stocked variety correct. Or does native stock exist like in Argentina, Venezuela and Chile?

Some of the lakes around Bogotá, like Usme, have good trout fishing as do lots of the lakes in Boyacá. Also around Villa de Lleva-most of the restaurants there have fresh trout (troucha) on the menu

a girl/lady in bogota, that we were visiting for business a few weeks ago, who was from TOLIMA.... said there was good fishing around there - Tolima - she didn't say what sort. Or, maybe she did. muy rapido. But, I am thinking by now that as you traverse the Andes Montanas, that mostly it is alot of trout. I really can't imagine the Colombian government taking the time or effort to stock the lakes and/or streams with fish. They have toooooo many other much more important and urgent matters to tend to.

Hay Muy Poco!

Colombians are complete fucking idiots when it comes to preserving natural resource for coming generations-they have raped/plundered/destroyed fishing populations both fresh and salt everywhere they could be netted/dynamited.

GS--You really needn't go that far to Trout Fish! Head next door to Merida, Venezuela--a Jewel of a Town in the Andes and there is your Trout Fishing(3rd paragraph).

¡Jajaja! Troucha quiere decir "path" o "trail" en el español.

Estamos hablando de "trucha"

In other words,......we'd need some James Bond-Like preparations? Just in case... 3 150's on that little 16-ft boat, to make it stand up and dance, when the banditos are in site?

If you're going to be in Pereira, go to La Laguna Del Otun, you'll find trout there and it's a relativelly short distance.

Billyb, it is a beautiful place I agree, but it is a long and exhausting walk, and very cold at night. A trip that requires careful planning, and really not worth going there just for fishing.
