"Did you hear the 'BOYS are getting Moss?"

- he has actually been drama free for a while, but for some reason i don't think that will last in dallas - too bad. i always wished dallas had the modesty of the packers.......... i guess i can always dream.

a pirhana must be a kick to catch, as for fishing.
I'd think that is a tough, tough battle on the right light tackle.

Locals told me, that they used parts of raw chicken or even rats for bait. According to what I have seen on the Web: good old fashioned top water bass baits work best. Please catch and release. The payara are threatened.

OK I thought it sounded familiar, a famous international fishing outfitter was kidnapped near there years ago-he was rescued by the Colombian Army quit the business.

Is it responsible to promote a place that's in such a dodgy area?

I have fished there many times, and also have seen quite a few Israel tourist in the area.
To this date I have never been taken hostage . The ELN and FARC do not want you if you
dont have big bucks or connections.. Truth be told FARC and ELN have many of their group low profile in every place in Colombia, and if they wanted you it would not have to be while you was fishing, they would take you hostage in Bogota as easy as any where else. So go on down there and let your drag sing..

The huge peacock bass are caught in Brazil - and believe it or not, Miami/Dade and Broward Counties (Florida). But, there are large sized ones in the tributaries to the Amazon / Orinoco Rivers. In other words, there are lots in Colombia. The records have been caught elsewhere.
Same with the Payara. The world record was caught in north Venezuela. (That ain't far from Colombia)

Floridas peacock bass have yet too break the 12 lb mark, Colombia , Ven , Brazil all have
peacock bass over the 25 lb range. Payara in Orinoco river in Colombia and Venezuela have been over fished by locals with bows and nets and Dynomite for years.

It was back in '92 and a guy named Erland von Schniedern had a lodge named El Morichal near Puerto Carreno the info I found said he was rescued by the Venezuelan Army as it happened.

So whether it was FARC or ELN or some freelance bunch of criminals we can see that the area has been unstable for many many years and from recent reports remains so.

Hardly the sort of area to recommend to anyone ever.

Back in 1992 a gringo would be taking a risk traveling in most places in Colombia.
Medellin was outta control then and the roads to any where outta Bogota were dangerous.

If you do not like fishing and adventures, that is your choice, as per myself I do not let fear control my life.
