En El Tiempo this article demonstrates that colombia has such a long way to go when it comes to equal opportunity for her african/indeginous descendents.
The article itself is insulting and shows that colombian society have alot to overcome. This lady appears to be well educated and speaks several languages. Pres. Uribe chose her as minster of culture during the time when he is bending over backwards trying to get approved the TLC. Is this a political manouevre from the head of state to score brownie points with black american democrats to vote yes for the agreement or did it dawn to the Pres. Colombian that a portion of his citizens do not hold any position of stature and respect. It appears if a negro is on "la cancha" playing football he isn't worthy of intellectual capability.
The comments from this article alone proves that the average Colombian in Colombia really need to research of their family tree and see themselves for what they really are. There is also migrating to USA/Europe and getting a reality check.
IMO, she appears to be a mere pawn but truly deserves this position based on her record. Defeating the odds just for being of color and a woman in Colombia demonstrates she is well prepared.
I would like to here your comments on this touchy subject..I mean I don't see the big deal..Ok ella es negra and elected as the minister of culture. What's the big deal. Imagine if a black/ colombian ran for president.
