Finding SSRIs in Colombia

Can anyone tell me if it is difficult to find access to SSRIs and doctors who prescribe them in Armenia?

Maybe for the Benefit of Non Medical Posters here you should explain what SSRIs are?

Prozac (fluoxetina) is pretty cheap in Colombia. The generic stuff is 5% of the price in Canada. I don't take SSRIs, and the difference in price made me suspicious. I would imagine you do not need a prescription in Armenia and that they are widely available. I could not say the same for luvox, celexa, zoloft, paxil or similar medicines like effexor or wellbutrin.

Yes, explain a bit. I live there (I mean here) so I could ask.

Or take Pow-Wow's advice and go out in the yard and pick some St. John's Wort.

minor correction: it's "reuptake inhibitors", not "reduction inhibitors"

Sr Tertius is right, of course. Long time since I've called them anything but SSRIs, and didn't notice my mistake. They stumble that run fast.

St. John's Wort has mixed reviews, but so do many of the SSRIs (especially Paxil). I'm prepared to believe there is a little benefit to St. John's Wort.

Any psychiatrist or doctor can prescribe anything at all for you. If you know what you want, or If you have already been prescribed a brand and dosage in the past, just walk into a drugstore and ask for it. If you happen to have an empty box or bottle, a refill from the drugstore is a certainty.

In general, a Colombian prescription is not a legal document allowing you to buy meds, like in the U.S.

In Colombia, the prescription is considered advice and instructions to the patient, except for in the case of the sentence below.

The only thing I've found that you cannot get without a prescription are benzodiazepines, such as valium and xanax, which are tightly controlled.
