Hola,
I am a foreigner de vacaciones in Medellin now and did not succeed finding a place in Bogota where I can find a sim card for my old nokia. All they did in the various comcel shops I visited, was trying their own sim card in my old nokia and say no, it does not work, sorry we dont have...I have done this in the philippines witout any problem and I dont think my nokia, although quite old, is not that obsolete.
Can somebody give me any advice . I will stay a few days in medellin than move to Caratagena after so you can give me advice for both towns.

Crazy4Cali says on Jan 25, 2006, 09:08: Your phone is blocked Many (all?) cell phones are programmed to only accept SIM cards from the carrier that sold the phone. They don't want you running off to another carrier with your cheap/free phone.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 25, 2006, 09:52: About sims Your Nokia phone might also be working on different GSM frequencies from what comcel uses. Colombia is pretty much on US standards, not European ones. Unless you have a tri or quad band phone you might be out of luck.

Crazy4Cali says on Jan 25, 2006, 11:43: Easy test The easiest way to see if your phone is blocked is to try swapping cards with someone who is using a different carrier here in the states before you leave.

latinluver says on Feb 25, 2006, 21:22: Does Comcel Prepaid SIM support data? I am a business traveler coming to Bogota in April. I want to buy a prepaid Comcel SIM on the internet before I come, and use it with my GSM Quad Band 7100g Blackberry when I arrive. In order to receive email on my Blackberry, the Comcel prepaid SIM will need to support data services. Does anyone know if it does? Does anyone have any experience using a Blackberry with a prepaid Comcel SIM?
