Finally doing AOS Packet

Hey gang...good to see all of you are all still on here. Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. As you know my fiance got here the end of February (K-1)and we have been very busy getting all the wedding plans together and completed on April 29th. During all the festivites of him coming home, we have since moved, had the wedding, I changed jobs, and now we have found out that I am two months pregnant. WOW!!!!
Anyway, we are filing the AOS packet today and just want to make sure that we have everything put together properly since I have not spent the time on this round of immigration forms that I did for the K-1.

From visa-journey it says we need the following:
I-130
G-325a
I-864
I-485
I-765 because he needs to get a job... :) (He's going crazy at home. Imagine a latin man not working for two months and staying home with our 4 yr old twin boys everyday.)

Anything else I need (aside from all document copies)?? No photos or anything?

Also, I see that the I-130 needs $180 filing fee, the I-485 needs $395, and the I-765 needs another $180...is there any way to combine and possibly save when filing all the forms together? Just a thought...

Thanks for your help!

Read the Visa Journey guides You definitely need photos - but I do not remember how many. I think I sent 2 with the I485 (we didn't do any EAD or AOS so don't know about those.) Good Luck

Remember... Keep an exact copy of what you send and send it return receipt requested! Don't ask me about the details it isn't pretty.

Wow congrats... so many changes! How was the wedding? Congratulations on your pregnancy, those are awesome news!

Remember to include the check for biometrics (I think they cost around 70 dollars).

I don't know if you already filled them or not but if you want to I can send you the checklist I used. We didn't get any RFE's.

Do you have the medical examination or the vaccination supplement?

Those are the things that I can think about...

I send hugs and again... CONGRATULATIONS!

oh I wrote a message and it erased :( Anyway in abstract it say that CONGRATULATIONS

It reminded you of including the 70 bucks for biometrics (in a separate check). It also said that unfortenately I don't think you can save by sending things together.

And finally it said that if you wanted me to send you my checklist I would be more than glad to do it...

Hugs and congrats again

Silvia

Congratulations!!! I sent all my applications together, but I sent them as 3 separate bundles: AOS, AP, EA. Since they all go to the same place, there's no point in sending three packets.

Don't forget that anything that is not in English needs to be accompanied by a certified translation. I knew this when I sent in the packet even though we didn't have one (yet) for her birth certificate. As expected, we got an RFE for it and fortunately it had arrived between the time we sent the application and got the RFE so we put it all in the mail the next day. Overall I don't think it delayed anything more than a week, two at the max.

Make and keep copies of EVERYTHING you send. I amazed myself as to how anal-retentive I could be and made exact copies of each packet, scanned them into the computer and had a printed copy and an electronic version that was backed up on several hard-disks and some CD-ROMs (Some had to go on a DVD-Rom). I didn't want anything to get lost (yet I still managed to delete some of the files :)

Then, after dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's it's back to more waiting.......

Got it...I think So...obviously sending the package got delayed again, but I swear we are going to send it this weekend. :)
I have gone back over all the websites and re-printed everything. I'm going to take a closer look at everything over my lunch hour. Hopefully, it doesn't completely ruin my good mood, although I have a sneaky suspision that it is going to.

Quick question though...I see on visajourney that it says to mail the I-130 to my local office, however on all the other forms it says I need to mail everything to the national office (for me in FL its the TX location). Any thoughts or suggestions?

Crazy..Question on abbreviations In your post you mentioned the AOS, AP, and EA. The AOS is Adjustment of Status, and the EA is the Employment Authorization, but what is the AP?? Advance Parole (sp?) so my husband could leave and re-enter the country? If that is the case, is it required that we file that form now in order for him to be able to leave?
Everything is just so expensive, more so than I had anticipated.

Crazy4Cali says on May 26, 2006, 08:06:

AP = Advance Parole (not Associated Press)

You'll only need that to leave the country prior to receiving the "green card." If you don't think he'll be leaving, then save the money. Of course, with my luck, if we didn't apply for that for my wife, she would have had an emergency and we would have been in trouble. Fortunately, because we applied for it, we didn't need it.

As far as where to send it, we sent all our applications (AP, AOS, EA) to the same address. In fact, we sent them all in the same (muy gordo) envelope. I think it was to the office in Chicago, but I'd have to look. After they review it, THEY send it to your local office and all subsequent communications (like setting the appointments) are handled from there.
