Finally - Leaving for My Trip on March 17th Question on Luggage

Hi All,

I am finally leaving for my trip to Bogota to meet my novia. Then from there we will travel to her city of Tulua to meet family, sight seeing, etc.

Thanks for all the help from all. I hope to have a SAFE, ENJOYABLE, and great time while there. I am looking forward to it and her.

Someone (a friend) was telling me to possibly be careful of the markings on my luggage such as US logos, etc. Don't make things to obvious that you are a foreigner. And I understand that much.

But what about the regular old standard name tags with your name, address, etc. How can you identify your bags or someone else for that matter should they get lost?

I even thought about this idea (since all bags start to look a like after a while) to get the colors of the Colombian flag using cut pieces of material and wrap around the handles. Do you think that would be offensive? Need to identify my bags better. (Plus have my name tag). Yeah, I know a stupid question for first time to Colombia! : )

Thanks!

Yellow Masking Tape I have placed yellow masking tape around the handle of my duffle bag so it is easily distinguised from all the others falling down into the baggage return. If at all possible the next time I travel I'm going to try to travel so light I only take carry-on. Problem solved!

bagage markings I have never worried about the logos or other markings
on my bagage. As far as I know, it is a requirement that you have a name tag with your name and home address on each bag, for security purposes.

Don't be too worried about them knowing you are a foreigner.
I never have.

BTW, my colombian wife always marks our bagage with a piece
of ribbon (or tape) on the handle. So we can easily spot it at the
bagage claim.

Travelling Light Hey Platano, when I went to Barranquilla last fall, all I took was a carry-on because of several reasons. I didn't want my luggage getting lost because it would really suck to be in a foreign country without my essentials. I also wanted to be expediant getting from one flight to the next and through customs. It worked like a charm! Especially when my connecting flight got screwed-up in Bogota and I had about 10 minutes to get to the other terminal and on the plane to Barranquilla!!! When I go back next month, I'll be travelling light once again. ;-)

No Worries The idea that someone is going to target you/your luggage because of tags/markings is a traveller's myth.
Last year just for laughs I bought some of those Canadian flag luggage tags that we Canucks are so famous for.
The only time anyone noticed was in CTG airport when a Frenchman wanyted to practice his English.

Hey dont worry about marking your luggage. I went to cali in december. I havent gone to cali since i was 8yrs old. usually they have people checking the tags to make sure you have the rite ones. So dont worry about anything and have a great time over there. From a colombian point of view go and Enjoy yourself and make sure you keep your eyes to yourself. Like everyone knows colombians chicks are the best girls in the world.

not to worry, friend. forget all this jazz about luggage and if it's gonna make you look like a gringo no man, you look like a gringo because you are one.

don't worry, there's tons of gringos and europeans, etc. all over the place. forget all that stuff.

just go there, hook up with your novia and behave yourself, go where she and her family take you and you'll be safe and have a wonderful time.

peace...
