Fiesta Independencia in Orlando

Hope to see some of you PBH members at the show.

I won't stand out in the crowd until later in the day when my sking turns a lovely shade of red, but if you see a beautiful señora in a pink top and white skirt dancing like mad that will be my wife Maria, stop by and say hello to us.

Remember to drink lots of water it won't be as hot as Chicago but it will be about 105 degrees with the humidity factored in.

I drove past the location for the fiesta this morning and it is looking well-organised and the stage looks good, lots of stands being set up with great Colombian foods and crafts.

Ha ha ha ha!!! Pretty funny, Tinto, you almost had me going there for a split second.

Peter Thanks again for this mornings "suprise" Damn!If I might have to head down that way. I might need to go to Miami just to cool off. It was 104 with near 80% humidity. Today it is "only" going to be 96.

Look, if I get to Miami, I might as well head down to the mother land, Colombia. In Bogota, I can cool off and get "warmed up" at the same time. No such guarantees in South Florida. Besides, my cousins down there and she will watch me everywhere I go....almost

It's obvious who has taken over the Kernow the household. I never thought I would see the "kernow" marching to the melody of another in the Kernow household

She hasn't so much taken over my PC as she has the room in which it resides. Fortunately I have 4 other PCs in the house but laptops aren't the same. I think she will be our guest for at least 6 months or until I find her a man!

Luckily the site I put up for the fiesta only took about 10 minutes to do. So I was quick in the room and out again before she and my wife returned from Victoria's Secrets or wherever they went, I just know they came home with bags of panties!

It is a bitch being poor and only having two bedrooms in the house.

So Kernow, are they going to do a fashion show for you? You dirty dog you. Your wife isn't enough so you have to export another woman from Col to satisfy all your desires. I guess you figure if you can't go to Col, you will bring Colombia to you. Look, if she looks "acceptable" I told you I would take her off your head. Unless that's what you really want.

I just knew there was a kinky side to you. In fact, now that she bought Victoria Secrets, you can tell your little room mate that both her and her new wardrobe are welcome up here in the Windy City. On the other hand, I don't want to rob you of your fun if that is what you are looking for.

I thought you didn't want an illegal Colombiana? No, I'm afraid I shall have to keep her her with me. Until it is time for her to go back to Bogotá that is. ;-)

Gomezman5 says on Jul 25, 2005, 22:00:

She is illegal????????????????????????????????? You're correct. Forget it. She and her Victoria Secrets undies can stay with you. I have nothing against them. I know many illegals. I just don't want to get involved with one.

Hey, since you know I don't want any illegals, why was it that you in your email asked me if I would take her off your head to begin with? I assumed when you first offered her to me, that she was legal

oh well.

kernow62 says on Jul 26, 2005, 04:44:

I've never heard the expression "take her off your head" is that like taking somethinng off your hands? It sounds sort of kinky the way you say it and I can assure you mi senora won't allow for any such goings on in our household. I am just turning away when she walks past wearing next to nothing. ;-)

I just wondered if you wanted a visitor for a while, not a permanent relationship, I think you jumped the gun a bit. She is already a bit tired of the US and is thinking about returning to her apt in Buenos Aires or her apartment in Bogota earlier than she had planned. We are trying to convince her that the US is really not so bad and to at least stay for a while to learn some English. Perhaps she needs to get out of Orlando which isn't really representative of the US. She likes Miami but that is more Latin American really.

Gomezman5 says on Jul 26, 2005, 06:19:

"Take her off your head". That is an old American expression...it means get red of her/ or take the the responsibility or problem. Believe me, i did not make it up.

Something here does not make sense. Kernow, remember it's the lawyer in me. I always catch you with these things. It goes like this: How is it you have a person here that has a home in Buenos Aires and an apartment in Bogota, and they were not able to procure a visa to come here and stay legally??? Maks no sense. I can assure you, your average poor Bogotana does not have a home in Argentina either. You have to have money for that. YOu have to have the mone to fly back and forth and that is a very expensive flight. Nobody drives that distance.

And, ok I would notmind a visitor, to show around Chicago. As you no doubt know, I am very proud of my city. And in the Summer, there is no better American big city to visit. It is beautiful, lots of things happening. And whether she knows or does not know English, she can still have a good time. Sorry Kernow, I can understand why she is bored. Sorry friend but Orlando only has so much.....after that, it'a time to head north and see the heartland, and real America. So take her to NY or bring her here to the Windy City, and then you can stay a day (that's about all I will probably be able to handle you) then leave her here and you can head back to Orlando...Just a joke. Stay a week if you want. Maybe I'l call my friend Don Rumsfeld and he can stop by and give you a lesson or two.

kernow62 says on Jul 26, 2005, 06:40:

She is here legally for 6 months. She is not here legally if she chooses to stay past that time, which was her intent, that is why I said she was illegal. I didn't make myself clear, sorry for the confusion. She is not poor but not wealthy. Her parent's are deceased, she inherited her apt. in Bogota and some money, she purchased the other apt. in Buenos Aires with some of the money. She is Colombian with permanent residence status in Argentina. The apt in Bogota provides added income and she travels often to Uruguay, Chile and Brazil and finds the costs reasonable, often staying with friends as she is doing with us.

I still think you made up that saying, or it must be a Chicago thing that normal Americans don't use. I consider normal Americans to be those that live in the hills of West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, oh mustn't forget North Georgia.

Gomezman5 says on Jul 26, 2005, 08:44:

It's called "Phrasal verb" "The phrasal verb 'take off'

Taking something off someone is removing it, especially by force:

"You can't go around taking things off people."
As illustrated in this website:
http://abcasiapacific.com/englishbites/popup/!word_takeoff.htm

Also in this web site:
http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/phrasal-verbs/take-off.html
"Take off" possible application "SEPERABLE"
So, I was trying to seperate you from her

When I said "take her off you head" that meant, and EVERY American would have understood me, to take the burden from you personally. The reference to "your head" was to say that the reason you want to get rid of something or someone is because they are annoying or giving you a problem. In the USA Mr. Kernow, it is common to make reference to one's head when speaking about a situation, especially a negative one. Like when a person says ..."You give me a headache." They often don't literally mean they you give them a heachache. It could mean that they just don't want to deal with you anymore. Doesn't you wife ever tell you that.....I have to believe that she does.

kernow62 says on Jul 26, 2005, 08:49:

Yeah right, you made it up.

I think it should be "I will take it off your hands".

I would have heard that expression of yours by now, I have been in the US a long time. I think it was a Freudian slip on your part.

kernow62 says on Jul 26, 2005, 08:53:

Just GOOGLED your phrase and it seems like it isn't a phrase at all, only 201 hits versus at 14,500 hits for "I'll take it off your hands".

Apparently the only one using it in the manner that you do is Gomezman.

Gomezman5 says on Jul 26, 2005, 09:00:

Kernow The words "take off" don't need to be used together for it to be a valid verbal phrase. I just gave you sites that illustrate the ussage of the words "take off" in exactly the same context that I used it with you---even if the words were not used consecutively.

Listen Kernow, you are the only person I know that "whilst" everywhere. You are in the US almost 20 years and you still use that word. You will never find Americans using that word. That word is purely British. Bet on it!!

Fellas Kernow - Perhaps it could be an African or Indian saying, they carry stuff on the top of their heads, so you would be doing someone a favour by 'taking it off their head' - that's my guess anyway!

Gman - I think you are dabbling in some cunning linguistics here with Kernow, wanting to take a lady off his head, presumably so she can sit on yours! ;-p

I can't tell if you guys are arguing seriously or not - I hope not, it's pure entertainment, please let it continue.

Plus one of my friend is a DJ with the equipment it is going to be great. My friends always introduce a lot of girls, but in my three years going to Colombia this might be my best trip ever! They tell me I may not sleep at all in 2 1/2 weeks. What a way to go. GM5 where ever I am at you are invited, just let me know and I will give you the info.
