Festival de la Chicha en Bogotá or “La Experiencia Más Linda de Tu Vida”

Festival de la Chicha en Bogotá or “La Experiencia Más Linda de Tu Vida”
XIV Festival de la Chicha en la Perseverancia:

Again, I had a great time in Bogotá, Villavicencio and in Chile (Santiago)
However, I had to admit that during my short vacation I was not able to accomplish all my goals!
In my quest for Chicha in Bogotá I did not have a chance to have a zip of this infamous drink, infamous to some naïve travelers, a drink often banned or discouraged from production and distribution many moons ago.
In my last days in the city, I diligently tried to find the chicha drink since I read about it in PBH (http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/post/chicha-drink/#) a while ago. I was ready to go to Monserrate but I was told several times by several Bogotanos that Monserrate was closed to the public because it was undergoing a face lift. So I traveled via Transmilenio to Barrio Restrepo, there at the Plaza I was told by a two ladies that outside the Mercado and close to the cervecerias or places where they sell beer there was one chicheria! As I approached the establishment I was told that the place was closed down several months ago.
But I was not willing to give up so I asked the pedestrians as they were walking up and down on the sideways and streets…and I asked for the Chicha drink in restaurants and in the Leather stores and everyone told me that they did not know where I could find such a drink. Some of them showed up signs of been so confused; others frowned at me, while one gentleman laughed with moderation as I asked him about the chicha.

But here is the good news: One day before my return to the states I visited my favorite restaurant, Club Colombia and there Fox Tele Colombia was making a travel documentary on Colombia.
I think they name of the show is “La Experiencia Más Linda de tu Vida” This show is coming soon on National Geography. I will try to find out when it is going to be aired. Maria Ce, the producer or TV reporter had guests from Peru, USA, Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela and Spain and while they were shooting the documentary I met Mr. ‘Goodnews’ one of the technicians or coordinators of the production and he told me where to find this ‘mystic’ drink. In fact, he told me that he lives near a place where they make it. He also told me that I could find it in Chorro Quebedo, Candelaria and he even shared the great news of the upcoming Chicha Festival in Bogotá.
I was so delighted to hear this comforting news, unfortunately I was leaving the next day very early so I did not try this healthy drink but now I know where to find it the next time I return to Bogotá and furthermore I am happy to know that there is a Festival de la Chicha en Colombia. I think this is a really “The most awesome experience of your life”

“Así, la chicha pasó de ser un problema "de moral y de salud" a convertirse en símbolo histórico de identidad de la cultura popular de la capital del país, así como lo son símbolos nacionales, la champaña en Francia, la cerveza en Alemania y el vodka en Rusia.”

“La Chicha es una bebida parcialmente fermentada, generalmente de maíz que desde la época prehispánica se elaboraba en países suramericanos como Colombia, Perú, Ecuador, Chile y Argentina.”

I do not have the date when the 2009 festival starts but I believe it is on October 4 or 5. I am waiting to hear from a friend in Bogota to let me know of the current Festival de la Chicha.

Webmanco, besides flashing the colombiche ads, I believe you live in Bogota, do you know when the chicha festival starts this year??
The guy I met in Bogota has not called me to share that important info.
