Felt a tremour in Medellin

Hi, at about 5:05pm (sunday) I felt a small earthquake at my apartment in Medellín. I was lying on my bed and it started to rock. I've been married a year now and the bed doesn't rock very often, if you catch my drift, so I am pretty sure it was an earthquake.

Does anyone have any info about this? A few people were looking out the window afterwards, so I assume I was having a dream.

Later,

I heard about it... I was watching yesterday "Un viaje para descubrir a Colombia" from
CáracolTVInternacional. This time they were visiting Medellin and during the interview I heard couple of people who expressed the same concern as you.

yes, in Cali too I was talking to my girlfriend around 6:00 or so, and she said there was a tremor in Cali. She was pretty scared...it shook her building pretty good.

Do you live in Las Palmas by any chance? They are doing some construction at the bottom of the las palmas hills on a tower with a bridge that will connect to the "punta de piedra" complex and I am guessing that its shaking the other apartments up on the hill. I am not in Medellin at the moment but this happened to me not long ago and it was worrisome for a few moments. I am not sure what it was.

I live very close to the road "Las Palmas", but I live up the hill in Castropol - El Poblado.

They are building an office building directly behind my apartment, but this was different. Sometimes when they are pounding away with the Pile Driver I can feel my apartment shake a bit, but this was much different. It was about 7 seconds of a smooth back and forth rocking motion. I looked to see what my dog was up to (still a puppy, so you never know what the hell they are doing) to see if he was rocking the bed, but he was looking around like me to see what was going on. My wifes towel was hanging on the bathroom door, and I noticed it was swaying back and forth. There were no workers at the construction site, and they had not been pile driving that day.

My wife was in the aparment next to mine teaching english to our neighbour, and she said she felt nothing, but a family member of our neighbour called to say she had felt an earthquake.

I guess if people in Cali felt it, it must have been a biggy. I haven't looked elsewhere to see where it came from.

did you know... Its a strange feeling first time if you have never experienced one before.
I am not in Colombia right now so i don't know but I remember pretty good my first ride on the earth ....in 1994/1995 in Bogota I became pale as snow and everybody was asking what was happening to me. I really didn't know at that moment but now I am aware I have something very sensitive like the catlle , if you can watch them during daytime acting really strange in a earthquake surrounding you should expect something. When the ride began in Bogota finally after some minutes everyone in panic ran outside but I stayed just because my sickness disapeared seeing the walls moving and my brains had an explanation. Believe me with the knowledge I have now I will run aswell!!

Did you know the classical way of building in Colombia is a form of tapia which means very thick walls with kind off board on the outsides filled with all kind off materials. To make it strong and flexibel tied with wooden frames inside. This wil defenitely resist
an earthquake while modern structures will fal apart.

Look at the classical casa on the Fincas they are there for over decades or even longer.

johnboy, that's unfortunate (that the bed doesn't shake much after one year of marriage)...

I missed that the first time, Flaleo. How can you be saying that the bed doesn't rock very often after a year of marriage, Johnboy? You're married to a Colombiana, dude, you've gotta be teasing us!

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

UC,

No not teasing. Let's just say, before, it was the neigbours complaining about earthquakes, and now its just me.

Sure I am married to a Colombiana, but I've never been married to a gringa (nor anyone else), so how would I know the difference? Notice though I said "no mucho" and not "nunca". I guess my Dad was right when he told me that wedding cake was the greatest chastity drug around....

Oh well, back to my crossword as I listen to my wife snore...

Molson Golden!! LOL! I forgot about that stuff! LOL! I guess you are lot older than me! I remember my Dad drinking that, and OV. I don't think anyone under 40 drinks Golden. No offence. Thanks for the laugh though!

I thought I told you (under my former alias, Daver) that I liked Blue! (Labatt Blue, not Viagra!).

I actually find Colombian Beer to be quite good. About twice as good as American beer, but that still leaves it well shy of what I am used to back home.

Reminds me of a Monty Python joke. "How is American beer like making love in a conoe?"... "Because its fucking close to water"
