Fellow PBHers

Ok, I am seriously having issues getting the info, Obviously COPA Cargo Customer service is on Cuban time. I am trying to ship my dog to Colombia for Surgery, He is a Boxer and weighs 65 lbs, and the Crate weighs 23 total weight is 88 lbs. I want to ship him from Washington DC to Pereira or Medelline around Nov 22-23, He will fly back once he recovered from his surgery can someone get a quote from either destination? I can not seem to get anyone to speak english clear enough or respond back fast enough. Thanks, I do not have a preference who he flies with but I am flying COPA. I do not think they fly cargo to Pereira.

With COPA you will be completing part of the trip on Aero República which does fly to Pereira. All pets transported as checked baggage in cargo hold will be charged a fee, based on excess baggage rates. The weight of the cage is figured into the cost. Those rates are:

If the total baggage weight exceeds the weight allowance US$50
Each piece in excess of the baggage allowance US$75
Overweight: Overweight pieces between 50 and 70 lbs (24 to 32 kg) even if it's the only piece of baggage checked
US$50
Overweight: each piece between 72 and 99 lbs (33 to 45 kg) even if it's the only piece of baggage checked US$75
Each oversize piece between 63 and 107
inches, even if it's the only piece of baggage checked US$75
All baggage exceeding maximum weight, size dimensions or piece limitations, will be transported subject to space availability.

May I ask why you want to put him through the trauma of a trip before the surgery?

I would say vets in the states are far superior to ones in Colombia because they take better care of their pets. Some Colombians take great care, but most do not.

Is it a cost issue?

2,500 here and I do not have the time to help him rehab working 10-14 hours a day, I do not want to cage him that long. This is a temporary situation but would make perfect timing if I can get him there now and return in feb to pick him up.

Great Idea having your animal's surgery performed here in Colombia. Humans save big bucks on their medical procedures, why not the same savings for your Pets? It may be a little work but the savings will be huge. I think its a great idea and wish your Dog the Best.

I don't know if the money saved is worth the trauma the poor animal will go through, with the surgery and feeling that he has been abandoned. I think it would be better for his recovery if you were around.

Although the dog might be much better in Colombia only if you don´t have the time to be with him for his recovery, but I hope he has someone who loves him in Colombia and not for his blue passport but for being men´s best friend.

Hire a Dog Sitter (cheap) for a few weeks to keep him company, he'll do just fine. Just don't let your Pooch Crap in the Taxicab, next to slamming the hack's door, letting your Dog drop a load on the Taxi Floor or Barfing on it is the next worst thing to slamming the Cab door. Esp if the Dog owner is a Gringo,,,Ask me how I know how unhappy Taxi Drivers in Bogota get when you barf inside their Taxi. LOL
