During my last trip to Colombia I spent a few days with my aunt in Barichara. One of the shops they have there is called "Luz y Vida" and it is the storefront for an organization called the Asociacion de Mujeres Artesabas de Bucaramanga, which has a huge training program for displaced women.
I bought a leather purse from there. The quality of what they make is exceptional.. and prices are comprable to what you'd see in the high end malls, but with the added bonus of defintely helping some of the most vulnerable populations in Colombia.
The program is one of several around Colombia run by a group called IOM Colombia, which basically tries to provide support for the internally displaced (internal migrants).
Products are here:
from the Bucaramanga group: http://www.oim.org.co/mercadeo/default.asp?mid=7&id=2&p=5
from all regions: http://www.oim.org.co/mercadeo/default.asp?idmodulo=265&mid=1
and here are some storefront locations.
