One day we can hope that poverty and lack of education will decrease reasons people have to fight. All poor countries seem to have rebels, and it sadens me.

As an American Gringo i have to worry about where i go in Colombia as in other countries because the way i look represents the gringo stereo type. People who are mad at american multinational companies or the United States government may take their anger out on me if opportunity rises.

Unfortunately uneducated people don't realize that some of us care, some gringos work for human rights organizations, some gringos don't believe in US foreign policies, some of us believe in workers rights, feeding the poor, fighting poverty... etc.

Violence begets violence, and in a war there are no winners.

We must be looking at a different set of poor countries, even within Latin America itself.
