Here is the meat of the message the article is conveying... And yet these rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC, and fighters from their far-right paramilitary foes put aside the enmity that previously set them to slaughter each other.

This match, played by convicted killers and kidnappers, capped a remarkable peace process inside the 2,400-person prison in western Colombia. It was a reminder of the sport's power to cross the world's most trenchant divides.

"If these two teams so familiar with the most extreme violence can play a soccer game without injuring each other, then the message to the world is clearly that we can find peace through sport," said the prison's director, Miguel Evan, as he cheered the players on.

I suggested such a game in a prior post..but, the playing field would be an active landmine field...no need for penalties, cards, or referees...kind of a self-elimination style tournament...

Just my opinion...
