Wonderful, isn't it? Those guys freak right out at the very idea of Colombians expressing what they really think freely.

What did you expect? The march is against the FARC, which means they ARE confronting terrorists.

Hostage families are effectively hostages themselves, and it is perfectly understandable that they won't do anything that can cause any harm to their loved ones.

But the rest of Colombians who are against the FARC have their turn to speak up on the 4th. People in Colombia are perfectly aware of all the dangers when you go against terrorists. Those who are afraid or just don't care will stay home.

We will see how many do come out, it will be really interesting.

You are right about that one. They probably received threats that if they said or did anything that could be perceived as being against the Farc, they could say good-bye to their loved ones for good.

ejercitar la labor sindical?

6- ¿Un partido político, la Unión Patriótica ,
fue exterminado por la acción paramilitar, es decir,
asesinaron en menos de 7 años a casi cuatro mil
miembros, hombres y mujeres, y que en el gobierno de
Uribe, han asesinado a casi doscientos más?

7- ¿La condena por todos los crímenes anteriores
va a ser de máximo 8 años, de acuerdo a la ley de
justicia y paz inventada en el gobierno uribista?

8- ¿Hay más de treinta mil desaparecidos desde
finales de la década de los 80´s de acuerdo a
estadísticas oficiales, y más de tres millones de
acuerdo a estudios realizados por Libardo Sarmiento
Anzola?

9- ¿En menos de dos semanas, del último mes, los
grupos paramilitares han asesinado a 12 personas, han
desaparecido a 9 y han desplazado a 120, y que el
presidente Uribe anda pregonando por todo el mundo que
los grupos paramilitares ya no existen?
10- ¿El abogado Víctor Hugo Gallego, que trabajaba
con Corpades, quien venía haciendo denuncias sobre la
actuación paramilitar en Medellín, fue desaparecido el
pasado 31 de diciembre de 2007?

11- ¿El 11 de enero de 2008, mientras se realizaba
una fiesta familiar en el barrio "Once de noviembre"
de Santa Marta, varios hombres armados llegaron
disparando, asesinaron a cinco personas e hirieron a
tres más, y que las víctimas eran líderes
comunitarios?

12- ¿El 14 de enero, la Defensoría del Pueblo informó
que un grupo paramilitar incursionó en Santa Mónica,
Chocó, asesinó a dos personas, se llevó a otras ocho y
desplazó a cerca de 120 habitantes de la población?

13- ¿El presidente Uribe, ni el vicepresidente, ni el
comisionado de"paz" se han pronunciado en contra de
estos crímenes de lesa humanidad, y que nunca han
condenado las desapariciones forzadas masivas?

14- ¿El presidente Uribe lideró la formación de las
asociaciones "Convivir" cuando fue gobernador de
Antioquia, y éstas fueron los orígenes del moderno y
siniestro aparato paramilitar?

15- ¿Qué nunca los gremios empresariales ni la
Iglesia ni los alcaldes ni los gobernadores ni los
grandes medios de comunicación han convocado a ninguna
marcha de rechazo ciudadano a estos crímenes, ni a las
atroces desapariciones?

16- ¿Por todo lo anterior, la marcha del 4 de febrero
es una farsa que sólo busca condenar a uno sólo de los
actores de la violencia, y al resto de los actores,
incluyendo el Estado, los deja sin condena alguna?


Para bien de Colombia y de la necesaria paz, verdad,
justicia y reparación, no le marche a esa mala comedia
del 4 de Febrero

Why? Because nothing in that list makes it actually impossible to march against FARC.

It just tries to create "guilt by association". Since these persons and groups are supporting or participating in the march, nobody should go.

Using that kind of warped, biased and partisan logic, nobody should ever participate in any march or protest where FARC and ELN have either participated or expressed their public solidarity and support towards the event.

That means no anti-Uribe, no anti-government or anti-U.S.A marchs, if you (or, to be more fair, the person who wrote the list) wanted to be coherent.

But I don't think that is wise. In fact, I think it's blind and egoistic.

I think all kinds of marches are valid, regardless of the fact that a few of those who will participate in marches against FARC, ELN, AUC, Uribe, the government, Cuba, U.S.A, etc. will be criminals or worse.

That is no excuse to pretend to shut up the words and ideas of many others, usually the majority of the protesters.

I don't support Uribe, so I would never shout slogans in favor of him, but can't share this very simplistic attitude against the march, as exemplified by that list.

Just as I wouldn't share the opposite criticism against other marches.

Anyone who tries to monopolize the right to protest is...not worth listening to.

Politics is not only a question of good feelings.
We have to see beyond the daily facts their future impacts.

Perhaps. But I don't see why that would matter.

Let's look at the opposite example. When FARC and ELN claim that protests against Uribe, the government, the Free Trade Agreement, the paramillitaries or the U.S. are signs showing that their cause is just and necessary, because the objectives of their struggle have been approved or whatever....does that make such protests invalid or inherently negative?

Whatever Uribe or his supporters may say doesn't invalidate any march, in my opinion, nor does it override everyone's individual opinions.

They can say that the world is with their policies, but that doesn't mean crap.

Those who participate in the march will know if they are protesting against FARC for many other possible reasons, or if they are indeed promoting Uribe's policies (it's not a logical requirement).
