Fabulous new hostel opened in Medellín! The Irish have landed.

I´m designing a new website for my friend who has opened a new hostel in the Patio Bonito area of Poblado, Medellín. It is open now but there will be a big opening night party on the 17th of March (St Patricks day for those of you that don´t know). I have to say seriously that this place is one of the best hostels i´ve seen in my 4 years of Travelling the world. It has the lot, here are a few of the things that it has:

*swimming pool,
*Irish sports bar
*Turk (Steam room)
*Basketball & Volleyball court
*TV room with a huge DVD library.
*Brand new pool table with weekly competitions
+ loads more

You get all of the above and more but the prices are the same as other Hostels in Medellín.
Check out the website http://www.pitstophostel.com/ The website isn´t finished yet, there are still quite a few details missing on the website but should be finished in within the next week or 2.

Wow, yet another new hostel in Medellin.

Hostel Portabato (sp) opened last month, and soon to open Hostel TigerPaw near Parque Lleras.

Patio Bonito is a very nice area in El Poblado,

Nice job on the website so far. I like the look.

Wish your friend the best of luck!

Is there room for another hostel, if someone was considering opening another new hostel in Medellin?

It that your website http://www.medellintraveler.com , if it is, would you mind if i add a link to it from the website?

Looks better than the rest of the hostals in Medellin. This one gets my seal of approval. I hope it does well!!!

But with all these new hostals opening up, this is microeconomic theory to a tee... watch the profits minimize for all those around, until various players are forced out of the industry, profits soon to be 0 ;)

But judging by what this has to offer, this one will not be pushed out, hopefully it thrives.

Paulr, my comment was made with entirely good intentions. The list of services was blinking like some sort of weird flash graphic. I was interested in reading the services but not at the expense of staring into a strobe light. I'm sure it can be easily remedied.

Good luck with the new business. Sounds like fun.

podborski says on Feb 26, 2008, 08:21:

it only makes sense for places to send clients they can't accomodate to other hostels, why wouldn't you? It's not like selling a car or anything that lasts, when they might come back later and buy from you.

Plus it means the other places might send you overflow, or there might be a little informal revenue sharing going on.

Everybody benefits.

So, we´re talking about Guiness and Jameson drinking competitions.
No doubt followed by an argument about Rugby, Europe, the Black n Tans, or anything really (the Irish like a bit of verbal warming up first), then a good old Kilburn knees-up - biting and gouging allowed (Dublin Rules), as opposed to Belfast Rules (call him names then run away).

Might just make that trip Paul. I´ll start to polish my shelaghly. (OK,OK, Raaaaay..I can´t write Gaelic).

There´s a bar near the 6th Avenue in Cali which always has broken windows, glass on the pavement outside, and blood on the toilet floor - so I think there is one.

RAAAY says on Feb 26, 2008, 13:45:

Roc...........Brits refering to the Black & Tans above is nothing to do with the drink of the same name............The Black and Tans...as they were known, was a sort of military grouping sent over from England to back up the local British forces in Ireland some years ago.
These nice folks were recruited from jails, among other places, around England and offered the opportunity to go to Ireland to help quell us mis-fit Irish who were'nt doing what our nice English neighbours wanted.

They were paid more than the regular army and police and all acts of brutality on their part were ignored. They were a particulary heinous bunch. Their name came from the uniform, which was a mish mash of trousers and jackets from various other branches of Her Majesty's fine upstanding forces.

After 600 years of oppression, and several previous attempts (which coined the phrase "The fighting Irish - As they never lay down and accepted occupiers) the Irish revolted in 1916 to go on a defeat the British empire and force them to withdraw from the nation.

Humiliated, the British made an agreement to leave the Island, except for 6 northern counties to save face from absolute defeat. Ireland has been the thorn in Britains side for centuries.

The withdrawl was due to several reasons.
1/ International condemnation and pressure for their treatment of the Irish.
2/ The brittish were unable to control the Irish as every man in the street was willing to lay down his life for his country and his freedom.
3/ The losing battle they were fighting on the streets of Dublin and towns around the country was humiliating for an "Empire".

Gone are the days when the hostal owners could take their time (weeks) fixing things (Broken microwave, ants, mold in the rooms). Having this competition is good, raises the level of quality and shares the wealth. And employs more Colombians

"This place is REALLY nice and the price is right. I recently stopped by. This is going to be the first choice of hostals in Medellín and all the rest will get the left overs when there's no vacancy.

Gone are the days when the hostal owners could take their time (weeks) fixing things (Broken microwave, ants, mold in the rooms). Having this competition is good, raises the level of quality and shares the wealth. And employs more Colombians"

I find that on this site there is no one I consistently agree with more than this bloke.

Absolutely true!!! I hope this hostal does well.

Ah hell, don't get me wrong. It just seems that all the extraneros I meet here in Colombia act like they are lost in a train station or airport looking for the bathroom when it comes to finding prepagos. And then, I go out with some of the local girls with you guys and you seem more interested in taking pictures with the girls to show the guys back home rather than having fun with them. Having fun is talking, joking, dancing AND maybe something more. But just photos? C'mon guys!

Just one more thing. I know many, many Colombianas and Colombianos here in Medellin. They KNOW why you are here. Don't kid yourselves.....
